1 INDIAN TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC COOPERATION (ITEC) PROGRAMME

2 The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme was instituted by a decision of the Indian Cabinet on 15 September 1964 as a bilateral programme of assistance of the Government of India.

3 The ITEC Programme, born out of the vision of our first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru, was formally launched under the premiership of Lal Bahadur Shastri.

4 As on date 159 partner countries avail of training under this Scheme in various premier Institutes in India. Sri lanka also one of the partner countries.

5 Under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme (ITEC), training in India is provided to Sri Lankan candidates from Government, Semi-Government & Private Sectors in various fields such as:-

6 Information Communication and Technology (ICT)

7 Audit, Accounts, Banking and Finance courses

8 Telecommunication and English Courses

9 Management, SME/Rural Development Courses Specialized courses

10 Technical Courses and Environment and Renewable Energy Courses etc.

11 ITEC/TCS (Colombo Plan) Terms and Conditions

12 Air Fare The Government of India provides excursion/economy class air tickets for travel of participants from the capital city of the participants’ country to the training institute in India and back.

13 Visa Visa is issued gratis to approved nominees by the Assistant High Commission of India, Kandy

14 Course Fees Course fees are borne by the Government of India

15 ACCOMMODATION Accommodation is provided by Government of India in hostel/hotel, depending on the Institute and the charges are borne by the Government of India.

16 LIVING ALLOWANCE Government of India pay (through the Institute concerned) living allowance of Indian Rupees 25,000/- per month, calculated on the basis of arrival and departure dates, for meeting expenditure on food, out-of-pocket expenses etc.

17 BOOK ALLOWANCE Government of India provides book allowance of Indian Rupees 5,000/ for purchase of Course-related books and other items of stationery.
