2 The Challenge for Us Our mission is to connect and inspire people to strengthen their communities By 2040: Half the UK population will be aged under 18 or over 60. TRUST LEVELS By 2050: Ethnic minority proportion of population at 38%. Now: Income gap between richest & poorest has been widening for 40 years… COUNTRIES * Source: NEF. The study measured people’s experiences of trusting others, being treated fairly and respectfully by them, and of feeling a sense of belonging with/support from people where they live

Socially mixed teams of young people bond through 5 days of challenging outdoor activities Teams live residentially in their local area for 5 days and learn a skill that they use to interact with a community group Over 4 days teams design and organise their own social action projects, pitch to a ‘dragon’s den’ and complete a professional visit Over 4 weekend days teams prepare, advertise and deliver their projects to make an impact in their local area NCS Personal Challenge NCS Team Challenge NCS Real Challenge Design NCS Real Challenge Action

5 The Challenge For You – Summer 2014
Programme Leader: 16 or 32 days in July/Aug - £1,760 for 16 days Responsible for a large team of staff and 60 young people, including all personal development and discipline. Deepen your leadership experience by ensuring the smooth running of a very complex and demanding programme.   Assistant Programme Leader: 12, 24 or 34 days in July/Aug - £1,140 for 12 days Responsible for pastoral care and behaviour management of 60 young people. Suitable for behaviour management specialists with significant experience of residential youth work. Senior Mentor: 14 or 28 days in July/Aug - £1,190 for 14 days Facilitate, lead and pastorally care for a team of 12 participants, ensuring their safety and assisting their personal development through intense and varied activities.  Suitable for those with experience working with young people and involvement in residential environments. Community Facilitator: Up to 6 weeks in July/Aug + weekends in Sept - £520 for 8 days Sustain the personal development of teams of 12 young people, facilitating and motivating them through the Real Challenge curriculum. Suitable for those with experience of working with young people.

6 The Challenge For You – Summer 2014
Practitioner: Up to 27 days in July/Aug - £2,160 for 27 days Facilitate skills workshops with teams of 12 young people as they complete their Team Challenge. Suitable for those with experience working with young people and technical ability. Practitioners are specialists in photography, drama, media, sport or business enterprise.   Support Worker: 18 or 36 days in July/Aug + weekends in Sept - £1,530 for 18 days Focus on supporting one or two young people with additional requirements. Suitable for those with experience in supporting additional needs, as well as the ability to ensure all the young people in the team participate to their full potential. Residential Mentor: Up to 46 days in July/Aug - £2,700 for 46 days Juggle a variety of logistical tasks whilst staying residentially at Team Challenge accommodation. The role requires excellent time-management and communication skills in order to facilitate relationships with providers, the larger staff team and young people. Logistics Officer: 22, 54 or 64 days in July/Aug/Sept - £4,000 for 64 days The Logistics Officer is responsible for the set-up and oversight of the Real Challenge. Organisational skills, the ability to multi-task, and being able to communicate with a wide variety of groups, is essential.
