2. The Nuremberg Laws Deprived German Jews of many established rights
Took citizenship away from German Jews
Banned marriage between Jews and other Germans
Banned Jews from holding public office or voting

3. The Nuremberg Laws
Within 1 year at least half of Germany’s Jews were jobless, having lost the right to work as civil servants, journalists, farmers and actors
In 1938 Jews were also banned from practicing law, medicine, and operating businesses
Despite this inhumane treatment many Jews decided to remain in Germany during the early years of Nazi Rule

4. Kristallnacht

5. Kristallnacht November 9th 1938, known as ”Night of Broken Glass”
Resulted from a Jewish Refugee killing a German Diplomat in Paris
Nazi troops attacked Jewish homes, businesses, and synagogues
100 Jews were killed
30,000 Jews were arrested and sent to concentration camps
The Nazi’s blamed the Jews for the destruction

6. Kristallnacht

7. Jewish Refugees Trying to Flee
After Kristallnacht and the increasing negative treatment of Jews by Nazi Germany, many Jews tried to flee the country
Limits on Jewish Immigration
Nazi law prohibited any Jew from leaving the country with more than $4, but US immigration law forbade granting Visas to anyone “likely to become a public charge”
Few Americans want to raise immigration quotas
Others didn't’t want to admit Jews at all

8. The Final Solution
1942 Nazi leaders met at the Wannsee Conference to coordinate the “final solution to the Jewish Question”
Previous Solutions:
Shooting Jews and pilling them into mass graves
Forced Jews into trucks and then piped in exhaust fumes to kill them
All were to slow and inefficient for the Nazis
They developed the plan to round up Jews from all Nazi controlled territories and deport them to Concentration Camps

9. Concentration Camps
The healthy Jews would work as slave laborers until they dropped dead of exhaustion, disease or malnutrition
Most others, including the elderly, children, and sick, were sent straight to extermination camps
They’d be executed in massive gas chambers

10. Extermination Camps
The Nazi’s built extermination facilities at Chelmno and Auschwitz in Poland
Auschwitz:
Housing 100,000 people (300 Prison Barracks)
Gas Chambers that could kill 2,000 people at a time
Could kill as many as 12,000 a day
1,300,000 Jews were killed at Auschwitz alone
In only a few years the Jewish culture that had existed in Europe for over 1,000 years was virtually obliterated/destroyed by the Nazis
