6th Grade LASS Mr. Butler UNIT 1 Schedule Activities Due Dates

Our Year’s Themes These themes should guide your learning throughout the year
“My Learning” Themes 1. I own my learning, not my parents, not my teacher, not my peers. 2. My primary goal in school should be to GROW as a learner. “My World” Themes I’m growing up. Humanity is “growing up.” What was it like as a baby? We must study the past in order to help us build the future we want. History starts when somebody writes down what happened. But how accurate are they? “My Voice” Themes 1. Reading deeply takes special skills and leads to the respect of peers. 2. If you want to be heard, know what you’re talking about. Read. Research. 3. Writing that is worth reading takes time and criticism. 4. Matching our language to our audience requires a mastery of English.

Unit 1 Goals September 1st to October 7th
“My Learning” Goals I can explain how my personality impacts my learning. I will build my team by following the 4 team targets. “My World” Goals I can explain the difference between history and pre-history. I can harvest information from a textbook and use it. “My Voice” Goals I will read with focused attention for 15 minutes every day. I can use probing Bloom Questions to analyze a story. I will write with purpose and focus for 10 minutes every day. I can write a story that other people really want to read.
