Mission Statement Scabbard and Blade is a Joint Service Honor Society that unites Cadets and Midshipmen from over the nation in military excellence. The Society strives to better these cadets and midshipmen as future officers and to strengthen the joint service relationship through service to the community and leadership opportunities. We build and empower the next generation of military leaders. To become a preeminent military leadership development organization –focused on the Five Stars

JROTC MISSION STATEMENT
The JROTC Mission of Scabbard and Blade is to develop Cadets for their future career and educate their members about higher education opportunities. To instill Leadership, Ethics, Academic Excellence and strengthen the relationship through service to their school and community

National Purposes Purposes and Ideals
Promote scholarship within our military departments and throughout out Society Raise the standard of military education in American Colleges and Universities Unite in closer relationship their military departments Encourage and foster the essential qualities of good and efficient officers Promote an understanding of joint and multinational operations through strategic thought Disseminate knowledge of military affairs to the students and people of the country

Honor Society Scabbard and Blade was voted membership February 19, 2010 into the Association of College Honor Societies National officers petitioned ACHS in August 2009, and other member societies present at the annual convention in Boston, MA, voted unanimously for approval of the petition Scabbard and Blade is the first military honor society to join the organization which boasts a list of over 60 other honor groups. Although it is the newest member society of the group, Scabbard and Blade is among the oldest of such societies

JROTC membership Membership in the Scabbard and Blade Honor Society for JROTC detachments throughout the US began in 2003 MEMBERSHIP PROVIDES: Provides life-long association with distinguished officers of all services Confers distinction for high achievement Stimulates and encourages mental development and discipline Preserves valuable traditions and customs Provides spiritual and intellectual leadership development through the qualities of the Five Stars Imposes upon members high citizenship responsibilities and emphasizes deeper study and discussion of the American tradition -- its characteristics, ideals, and possibilities Strict Honor Code

Membership qualifications
Distinguished Member - Good scholastic standing in both, Academic and JROTC subjects with a GPA of 3.5 and above and in the top 20% of each academic class Member – Good scholastic standing in both Academics and JROTC subjects and possesses significant leadership quality and traits Leadership – Process of influencing others to accomplish the mission by providing purpose, direction, motivation and who are resourceful, good problem solvers, promoters of JROTC and Society activities, idea-contributors, dependable, and persons who exemplify positive attitudes about life. Service - Willing to serve in extra-curricular activities representing the Society and the JROTC program and defined through the voluntary contributions made by a member to the school or community, done without compensation and with a positive, courteous, and enthusiastic spirit. Character - The student of good character upholds principles of morality and ethics, is cooperative, demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability, shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others, and generally maintains a good and clean lifestyle.

Active Company members are eligible wear this uniform item. National Eligibility: All Distinguished Junior members are eligible wear this uniform item at graduation.
