How will scientist benefit from this information?

3 Research Question How far does lava flow from the volcanoes on Mars?
We think our research question is important because it would determine how far the lava will flow whenever a volcano erupts. This will benefit scientist because it will determine how Mars grows and at what rate. no.jpg

5 Hypothesis Group’s Hypothesis: The size of the volcano will determine how far the lava flows. For example if the volcano is big the lava flow will be big as well.

From countless eruptions overtime the lava creates layers of rock over and over and creates a large crater where the lava erupts from

8 Background information
Mar’s has the largest shield volcanoes in the solar system. Volcanism occurs mostly within three regions of Mars these regions are Tharsis, Elysium, and the Hellas. Mars has a wide range of volcanic features. These volcanic features include large volcanic cones, unusual Patera structures, mare-like volcanic plains, and a number of other small features. Volcanism on Mars is very old. The most biggest volcanoes are located on huge uplifts or domes in the Tharsis and Elysium regions of Mars. Olympus Mons is the largest volcano in the Tharsis region. The Martian Volcanoes flows are much larger then terrestrial volcanoes

Inside a volcano there is a pocket of magma beneath the surface and one or more cracks through which the magma forces its way out. The magma moves upward through a pipe or a long tube in the ground that connects to the magma chamber to the earths surface A lava flow is the area covered by lava as it pours out of the vents When a volcano erupts, the expanding gases pushes the magma from the magma chamber throughout the pipe until it explodes out

Length of Lava Flow: We will need to use this information to determine the length of the lava flow from a volcano MISC. Observation: this shows some other characteristics the image had such as craters or channels. Measurements THEMIS image is 18 km by 63 km we estimated the length Of the lava flow.

18 Conclusion What did your group learn from the data collected?
We learned that the average amount and the most common length of lava flow is around 18km. What would you do differently to make your investigation better? I would maybe take a better scale of the volume of the volcanoes so my answer would be more wholesome. Explain what scientific questions could branch off of this study to further scientific research about mars. Some scientific questions that could branch off of our research are “ Where are the safe areas in Mars?” This question could branch off of our study because obviously the areas with lava will kill you.
