ABPMP Chapter Objectives
Promote business process management as a professional discipline Provide community based forums for business process management professionals by facilitating the sharing of techniques, methods, experiences, successes, and failures in BPM Proctor the BPM Certification exams Provide study groups for the BPM Certification exams Provide opportunities for people to acquire BPM skills through BPM Training events, Certification and Degree Programs (partners) and schedule programs of continuing professional education Stimulate and support job demand for people with BPM Skills, act as a valuable channel (networking) for job searching

Chapter Maturity Levels
Milestone: The ABPMP Board of Directors approves the Chapter Latent and Interested Potential Forming Active VP of Chapter Services is contacted by a practitioner that is interested in starting a chapter in an area that is lacking one, that contact and their city/region should be added to the list of latent chapters A potential chapter has a chapter leader but little else. Perhaps an executive committee has been formed, or is forming, but the chapter remains largely in the planning stages At least 3 documented officer positions filled (4 is preferred as it is necessary to allow for turnover and finding new volunteers) Draft charter that defines key chapter policies and procedures like roles, responsibilities, governance, term in office, officer eligibility, officer selection process At least 4 documented officer positions filled (5 is preferred as it is necessary to allow for turnover and finding new volunteers) Final charter that defines key chapter policies and procedures like roles, responsibilities, governance, term in office, officer eligibility, officer selection process The officers must be ABPMP Professional Members in good standing At least 5members assigned to the chapter At least 10 members assigned to the chapter At least 5 members must be ABPMP paying members in good standing All members must sign the ABPMP Code of Ethics and ABPMP Confidentiality Statement No marketing has really begun, no events have been planned, and discussions with the VP of Chapter Services have not moved beyond an initial or phone call A kick-off meeting that is planned or has been held. During the planning stages, the local leadership focuses on networking, assessing interest in the organization, and promoting the benefits of membership A schedule of programs for 6 months after the kick-off meeting should be in place before promotion to an active chapter A program schedule planned and posted to their website (maintained on the ABPMP website) on a rolling, and ongoing, 6 month basis (deviations from this schedule will result in coaching and assistance before demotion to “forming” status) Participation in 50% of all membership, chapter services, and Board meeting conference calls. This will not apply to international chapters until we active Skype

Executive Management Team
The first step in establishing a chapter is to find motivated individuals that are registered professional members of the ABPMP. These individuals can be, BPM professionals People who enjoy evangelizing BPM People who can help others learn about BPM People who, through their experience, can identify challenges or pitfalls Suggested Roles: President, Vice President, Finance, Programs, Communications, Sponsorship, Education, Membership

Draft a Chapter Charter
The Chapter should clearly define policies and procedures in a Charter to ensure a consistent understand across the officers. Please follow up with the VP of Chapter Services for more detail. Chapter Definition (e.g. mission, goals, activities, member responsibilities) Officers’ Roles and Responsibilities (e.g. governance, segmentation of responsibilities, communication) Executive Committee Management (e.g. term of office, removal from office, vacancy of office) Executive Committee Voting Procedures (e.g. eligibility, nominations, ballot section) Chapter Membership and Communications (e.g. frequency, membership information, cross vendor promotion) Chapter Financing and Event Planning (e.g. chapter funding, fund raising, sponsorship)

Setup Executive Committees
Once you have identified your executive management team (5 members), the next step is for each one of the 5 to setup a committee for their respective areas of responsibility: Operations Committee Communication & Marketing Committee Membership Committee Education Committee Sponsorship & Revenue Committee It is important to setup the committees, so that the workload can be distributed during the initial phase of building up the chapter.

Establish a Meeting Facility
Location, Amenities, and Credibility are key to finding a facility to conduct the monthly meetings (workshop sessions) Location: The location should be centrally located, such as downtown, however, if safety is an issue or 75% of organizations are concentrated in a specific part of the metro, then a suburban location should be considered Amenities: Education or Corporate facilities tend to be excellent facilities with audio/video equipment, cafeterias and or auditoriums Credibility: A fortune 500 organization, government agency or prestigious education institute provides creditability

Build a Calendar of Events Schedule
Having a consistent schedule and publishing the schedule for the year supports attendance, by allowing members & potential members the opportunity to plan in advance on attendance. Time: 5:00p.m. – 7:00p.m. Date: 3rd Thursday of the 3rd full week of the month. Agenda 5:00pm – 5:30pm Chapter Business 5:30pm – 6:30pm Workshop Topic 6:30pm – 7:00pm Social Networking

Recruit Members Understand who are potential members. You will need at least 5 members (For every Professional member who joins, the Chapter gets $30 USD to support startup): BPM Professionals Six Sigma professionals LEAN professionals TQM Professionals ISO 9001 Professionals Operations Management Professionals BPM Technology Professionals Business Analyst Professionals Anyone who is engaged in management duties Other areas you may find members Partner with Education Institutions Partner with Corporate HR Departments

Publish a Workshop Schedule
The Director of Chapter Services along with the Board of directors will develop the annual workshop topics during the 4th quarter of each year for the coming year. The list of topics will be targeted to: Corporate Employees (Staff level & Management) BPM Professionals CBPP (Certified Business Process Professionals) Local Industries Community Contribution to a Charitable Organization Note: You should provide workshops participants with a certificate for attending. Note this should be a revenue generating event.

Build Relationships Please be cautious in creating formal contractual obligations. Any formal arrangements will have to be approved by the ABPMP Board of Directors More and more universities are offering operations management courses as part of their Continuing (Professional) Education Programs Universities are ideal relationship, because they support one of the key objectives of ABPMP, which is to provide members with the skills necessary to be Practitioners of BPM and qualify for job opportunities Universities also, serve as great facilities for hosting the monthly workshop (meetings), so quickly partnering with a university is important to chapter success

Revenue Generation Opportunities
Once the chapter is officially active the Director of Chapter Services will go over the various products & services that each chapter will be able to leverage to fund their operations in achieving our overall objectives as stated on the first slide. A revenue sharing agreement has been created that outlines the revenue opportunities for the chapter. Revenue Stream Chapter/ Affiliate % Comments Chapter Sponsorship 100 Chapters may solicit Corporations as sponsors as Chapter Sponsors to cover operating expenses as defined by the chapters. Workshop Fees Chapters may generate revenue through charging a fee to members and or non-members that attend the monthly ABPMP Workshop Series Food & Beverage Fees Chapters may generate revenue through charging a fee on Food & Beverages to cover any other cost associated with events. Newsletter Advertisement Chapters may establish a newsletter and sell advertisement space on the newsletter. Chapter Events (Forums, Expos) Chapters may conduct various events and charge attendance and sponsorship fees. Chapter Training Programs Chapters may conduct Training Programs depending on their capabilities to do so. CBPP Study Sessions Chapters may host CBPP Study Sessions Chapter Webinars Chapters may host Webinars sponsored by BPM Professional Services & Products organizations Chapter Job Fairs Chapters may host an annual Job Fair to support job demand for BPM Professionals.

Solicit Local Chapter Sponsors
Having snacks and drinks for the social portion of the workshop is important, due to the fact that the meeting is during many people’s dinner time and therefore, having some snacks will be beneficial and the more the better. Sponsors are good for funding the snacks and drinks Sponsors via physical meeting banners, newsletter banners and links are going to be two additional sources of revenues for supporting your monthly event expenses.

Setup a Chapter Newsletter
Establishing a chapter newsletter is a great way to keep active and inactive members engaged and hopefully drive membership renewal and new members. Proper design of the chapter newsletter should provide space for sponsorship advertising revenue to support chapter business.
