1 Prof. Henry Chang 10/5/2015 Fears of a robot takeover
are likely premature (Material to discuss is combined with news and my idea) Prof. Henry Chang 10/5/2015

2 In glossy sci-fi movies like “Ex Machina” and “Chappie,” robots move with impressive – and frequently malevolent – dexterity.有惡意的 靈巧,熟練 They appear to confirm the worst fears of prominent technologists and scientists like Elon Musk, Stephen Hawking and Bill Gates, who have voiced alarm over the possible emergence of self- aware machines out to do harm to the human race. However, they are many Robots here to design and use, like UAC (Unmanned Aircraft Control) or UAV (Unmanned Auto Vehicle) are examples.

3 The first DARPA challenge in 2004 of robotic vehicles helped spark greater interest in artificial intelligence. And in the 2005 challenge, a $2 million prize was claimed by a group from Stanford University in California, whose vehicle defeated another in a tight race. A preview of their work suggests that nobody needs to worry about a Terminator creating havoc anytime soon.大破壞 The robots have an hour to complete eight tasks that would take a human less than 10 minutes, like opening a door and entering a room.

4 I believe that this is the first competition for robot practice and training, since robot is a very new topic now. We can understand that many high-technology corporation or companies, some advanced Robot systems have been applied. Some companies have changed the usages of Robot systems to replace the original completion by human beings, as the presidents or general managers really understand what the performance of Robot systems can be given.

5 According Google [1], a robot is a mechanical or virtual artificial agent, usually an electro-mechanical machine that is guided by a computer program or electronic circuitry. Robots can be autonomous or semi-autonomous and range from humanoids such as Honda's Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility (ASIMO) and TOSY’s TOSY Ping Pong Playing Robot (TOPIO) to industrial robots; 像人的 Medical operating robots, patent assist robots, dog therapy robots, collectively programmed swarm robots, UAV drones such as General Atomics MQ-1 Predator, and even microscopic nano robots. 群 [1] Robot,

9 The branch of technology that deals with the design, construction, operation, and application of robots,[2] as well as computer systems for their control, sensory feedback, and information processing is robotics. These technologies deal with automated machines that can take the place of humans in dangerous environments or manufacturing processes, or resemble humans in appearance, behavior, and/or cognition. 10 Many of today's robots are inspired by nature contributing to the field of bio-inspired robotics.
These robots have also created a newer branch of robotics: soft robotics. The first digital and programmable robot was invented by George Devol in 1954 and was named the Unimate. It was sold to General Motors in 1961 where it was used to lift pieces of hot metal from die casting machines at the Inland Fisher Guide Plant in the West Trenton section of Ewing Township, New Jersey.

11 But now, a lot of manufactures, high information or communication companies already apply the Robot systems, like Pepper and Foxconn Technology Group in mainland China of Terry Guo, Luxgen of Kenneth Yen, some parts of plastics or power generator of Formosa in mainland China, etc., they use robot to generate the devices now. I still believe that the robot will be an evitable to happen, because the performance will be improved as the power of robot can appear.

12 “The extraordinary thing that has happened in the last five years is that we have seemed to make extraordinary progress in machine perception,” said Gill Pratt, the DARPA program manager in charge of the Robotics Challenge. Advance in pattern recognition hardware and software has made it possible for computers to make dramatic progress in computer vision and understanding speech, he said. Some software languages like VEX Cortex or Mindstorms NXT ect., can be found in Google.

13 In contrast, Dr. Pratt said, little headway has been made in “cognition,” the higher-level humanlike processes required for true autonomy.前進 “Without the person, these machines could hardly (can) do anything at all,” he said. In fact, the steep challenge in making progress toward mobile robots that can mimic human capabilities is causing robotics researchers worldwide to rethink their goals. Instead of trying to build autonomous robots, many have begun to think instead of creating ensembles of humans and robots.

14 Ken Goldberg, a University of California, Berkeley, roboticist, proposed a concept he calls “multiplicity,” with diverse groups of humans and machines solving problems through collaboration. Artificial-intelligence (AI) researchers have long noted that the simplest tasks for humans are the most challenging for machines. There are a lot of AI to explain what the AI can give us some ideas to follow.

15 “The intuitive idea is that the more money you spend on a robot, the more autonomy you will be able to design into it,” said Rodney Brooks, a Massachusetts Institute of Technology roboticist and co-founder of iRobot and Rethink Robotics. “The fact is actually the opposite is true: The cheaper the robot, the more autonomy it has.” For example, iRobot’s Roomba robot is autonomous, but the vacuuming task it performs is extremely simple. But the company’s Packbot is more expensive, designed for defusing bombs, and must be controlled wirelessly by people.拆去……的雷管

16 The contest led to Google’s decision to begin a self-driving-car project.
“We had a relatively easy task,” said Sebastian Thrun, who led the Stanford team in 2005 and later started the Google self-driving-car project. “Today they’re doing the hard stuff.” Is it possible to replace the hand-made by hand with robot now? I wonder that it is bother since hand-based program is easily done, but using robot should not quick to complete. However, combination of hardware and software is popular. Google has to give a answer now.

17 His view about the relationship between humans and robots has been shaped by the contests.
“I’m a big believer that technology progresses by complementing people rather than replacing them,” he said. Is it possible to replace the hand-made by hand with robot now? I wonder that it is bother since hand-based program is easily done, but using robot should not quick to complete. However, combination of hardware and software is popular. Google has to give a answer now.

18 Question Giving some examples to Robot.
Do you think that Robot is very popular now? Give some usages to explain. What are the Robot systems applied for Terry Guo in mainland China? Giving his idea now. Asking me by your questions please, I will give my ideas to you.
