Dean of Postgraduate Studies
Professor Helen Berry Dean of Postgraduate Studies Hello – Ni Hao (pronounced knee-how) I am Professor Helen Berry and I am the Dean of Postgraduate Studies at Newcastle University. Thank you for joining us for tonight’s event “Turning your UK education into a successful career in China” Particular thanks to our panellists, host and Alumni Committee members – without whom such an event would not be possible. A very warm welcome to all of our alumni of the Business School who join us tonight. It is fantastic to see so many of you here. We hope that you use this event to network with fellow alumni and share experiences, contacts and expertise. It is also a great opportunity for us to keep in touch with you and keep you updated with news from Newcastle. We’d like to extend a further warm welcome to the select group of offer holders who have joined us this evening. We are really pleased that you are thinking of studying at Newcastle University Business School and we hope that you find this event useful. As I’m sure many of you are aware, Newcastle University Business School is in the Top 1% of Business Schools in the world and our diverse and international academic staff are at the forefront of research in their chosen areas of Business studies. We are pleased to announce that this year we have launched our first ever Business Excellence Scholarships for Chinese applicants. Students with a first class degree and who have studied at a high-ranking Chinese University could receive a scholarship of £5000 towards the cost of their tuition fees. Business School staff are on hand to answer any questions you may have about the scholarship, your application or anything else you would like to discuss. We have lots of alumni here this evening who are more than happy to share their experience of studying in Newcastle with you. Please talk to them about what it’s like to live and study in one of the UK’s favourite student cities, and how studying a Master’s degree in the UK has helped them find work back here in China. We are very lucky to have a host and panel joining us this evening who have a wealth of experience and expertise in the Chinese job market and who will be sharing their thoughts and advice on how all of you can use your UK education to achieve success in your chosen career in China. I encourage you to join in and ask as many questions as you like to ensure you get the most out of tonight.
