iEARN Project Daffodils and Tulips
Primary school Antona Aškerca Rimske Toplice, Slovenia 2nd grade and a teacher Klara Trkaj
2
Before planting Our flower garden looked like that on 20th November There is a sun in the middle because it is the symbol of our school.
3
Some daffodils which were planted last year started to grow since the temperature here was really high for this season (over 10 °C).
4
First day of planting Our bulbs were planted on 25th November bulbs of daffodils and 40 bulbs of tulips were planted in the garden. The temperature that day was 5 °C.

Investigative question
How does the temperature affect the growth and the blooming of a tulip/daffodil? We will compare the growth of our tulips with tulips of 3rd graders at our school, who are also included in this project. Hypothesis We predict that the tulips planted outdoors will grow and bloom later than the tulips indoors.
7
Sprouting time Tulips sprouted around 10th February. Ten days later they were 10 cm tall.
8
4th March: Tulips and daffodils are growing.
9
Blooming time On 17th March the first two daffodils bloomed.
10
After our talking kites flew on 21st March, we took a picture with our flowers. Some more daffodils bloomed.
11
In March we did some art.
12
4th April: Our beautiful garden in full bloom.

Project Conclusion We observed our flowers during the growing. This winter the temperatures were really high for this season and we had very little snow. We think that the daffodils and the tulips sprout earlier than the previous year. If we want to confirm that sentence, we will have to plant bulbs next year. There is no evidence how many tulips and daffodils which we planted bloomed, because we plant bulbs in this garden every year. I think we should plant less bulbs and mark the place of planting in the future In our prediction we wrote, that the tulips indoors, which were planted by 3rd graders, would sprout and bloom earlier. We saw, that they sprouted and bloomed about at the same time. We are planning to join in this project next year too, because a lot of questions stayed unsolved.
