Public Relations – the planned and sustained effort to establish and maintain goodwill and mutual understanding between an organisation and its public.

Public Relations is all about Communication Relationships Reputation Project a positive image of the business to the outside world. This is through the public and publicity Publicity – any free news stories about a business’s products or service

Public Relations Developing good relations with various groups (publics). Example: Generating favorable publicity. Example: Maintaining a level of positive public perception. Example: Enhancing a particular image, innovation, reliability, honesty. Example: Handling or heading off unfavorable stories which could damage image. Example

Take action before impact hits Crisis Management – Protect a businesses reputation as a result of negative or unfavorable rumors or publicity

9 Public Relations IS NOT Advertising!
Advertising – is paid space or time on TV, Radio, Newspapers, Outdoor billboards and related to a specific product Public Relations – is used to increase public recognition, opinion or image of the whole business or oganisation. It should be planned, & is often free, involving the use of space, time and a variety of media or activities.
