Gospel Passovers John: Jesus goes to Jerusalem (for a 3rd time) for Passover. Passover is a multi- day event. Jesus is eating dinner with His disciples…

Take, eat; this is My body.
Matt 26.26 Take, eat; this is My body. Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. Mark 14.12 Take, eat; this is My body. This is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many. Luke 22.17 This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me. This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you. John 13.1 Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.

Gospel Passovers Takes bread and wine
“This is my body and blood”…not was. Do this in remembrance, but not in memorium. Recognition of resurrection, not remembrance of death. Jesus’ death didn’t mean anything …without the resurrection

I Cor 10: Flee From Idols 14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry
I Cor 10: Flee From Idols 14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. 15 I speak as to wise men; judge for yourselves what I say. 16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? 17 For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread. 18 Observe Israel after the flesh: Are not those who eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar? 19 What am I saying then? That an idol is anything, or what is offered to idols is anything? 20 Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons. 21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons. 22 Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?

I Cor 11: Conduct at the Lord’s Supper
17 Now in giving these instructions I do not praise you, since you come together not for the better but for the worse. 18 For first of all, when you come together as a church, I hear that there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it. 19 For there must also be factions among you, that those who are approved may be recognized among you. 20 Therefore when you come together in one place, it is not to eat the Lord’s Supper. 21 For in eating, each one takes his own supper ahead of others; and one is hungry and another is drunk. 22 What! Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and shame those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you in this? I do not praise you.

I Cor 11: Institution of the Lord’s Supper
23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.
11
I Cor 11: Examine Yourself
27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. 30 For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep. 31 For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. 32 But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world. 33 Therefore, my brethren, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. 34 But if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, lest you come together for judgment.
12
Lord’s Supper is not a memorial.
Memorials are for people who are no longer with us.
13
The Lord’s Supper is access to blessing.
Lord’s Supper is the recognition of resurrection and it’s active power in our lives. The Lord’s Supper is access to blessing. Not salvation. Blessing. Participation in Christ’ blood and body.
14
Communion does something…not symbolic.
Bread and Wine: why? Why not a handful of grain and grape juice? Cultivated / Fermentated Doesn’t say unleavened bread There’s power at work in these processes that are out of your control Communion does something…not symbolic. Symbolic actions are both pointless and worthless. Example? Releases power…a promise realized Blood is Covenant: forgiven of sin, reconciled to God. Bread is the Body: the spirit lives in you / ya’ll now
