Presentation on theme: "GCSE to A LEVEL TRANSITION"— Presentation transcript:

1 GCSE to A LEVEL TRANSITION
These are the skills you need to be proficient in to succeed at A Level Physics: Numeracy – using maths to model the physical world and to produce quantitative data pertaining to it. Problem solving- breaking complex situations down into smaller steps and applying physical laws with accuracy. Practical investigating- designing, undertaking, evaluating and improving techniques to interrogate physical phenomena effectively and reliably. Abstract thinking – using complex and abstract theories to explain a wide range of phenomena from quantum behaviour to aspects of astrophysics. Independence – taking responsibility for ones own learning. Resilience - being able to maintain a good positive attitude and keep going even when the work is difficult and progress slow.

2 Independence – taking responsibility for ones own learning.
As a transition task between GCSE and A Level, you are to complete one of the two tasks using the opportunity to show how you can approach a task independently. You need to decide on an appropriate outcome and work towards it. You will present your project to the class during the first week back in September. How you do this is up to you, but it should take approximately 5 minutes. The work should be aimed at GCSE/ AS level. It would also be useful if you produced resources that can be handed out for you and your class mates to use later in the year. As well as your presentation, you need to answer these two questions: Why did you choose A Level Physics? How do you think studying A Level Physics will help you in later life?

3 TASK 1 Who is the greatest Physicist of all time
TASK 1 Who is the greatest Physicist of all time? Albert Einstein Niels Bohr Isaac Newton Stephen Hawking Michael Faraday Richard Feynman Ernest Rutherford Paul Dirac Max Planck Erwin Schrodinger A N Other (of your choosing) Explain who you think has made the greatest advancements in Physics and how they have moved their specific field of physics forward. (No right answer! It is all about how you back up your argument.)

4 TASK 2 Greatest break through in Physics
TASK 2 Greatest break through in Physics? Quantum relativity Special Relativity Sound lasers Discovery of the Higgs Boson Finding the TOP QUARK Superfluidity Antimatter Pentaquarks Explain which of these (or one of your own choosing) has made the greatest impact in Physics (or on the everyday world) and how it has moved a specific field of physics forward. (No right answer! It is all about how you back up your argument.)
