1 FREQUENCY DISTRIBUTION
It is simply a table in which the data are grouped into classes and the number of cases which fall in each class are recorded. It shows the frequency of occurrence of different values of a single Phenomenon. The frequency (f) of a particular observation is the number of times the observation occurs in the data. The distribution of a variable is the pattern of frequencies of the observation. Frequency distributions can show either the actual number of observations falling in each range or the percentage of observations. Frequency distribution tables can be used for both categorical and numeric variables. Continuous variables should only be used with class intervals. A frequency distribution is constructed for three main reasons: To facilitate the analysis of data. To estimate frequencies of the unknown population distribution from the distribution of sample data and To facilitate the computation of various statistical measures
