Anne Frank Born June 12, 1929 in Germany
very outgoing, energetic and extroverted She received the diary for her 13th birthday She died shortly after her sister of typhus in March 1945

Otto Frank Anne’s Dad Born May 12, 1889 in Frankfurt, Germany
In 1908 he lived in New York and worked for Macy’s where he learned about business One year later, he returned to Germany when his father died Enlisted in German Army at start of WW I Married Edith when he was 36 Hobby was photography Spring 1933 moved to Amsterdam, Netherlands Ran his own business making pectin June 3, 1945, he returns to Amsterdam Marries a Holocaust survivor in 1953 19060 he is instrumental in opening Anne Frank house in Amstersdam He died August 19, 1980

Edith Frank Anne’s Mom January 16, 1900 born in Aachen, Germany
She was 25 when she married Otto Frank Edith struggled the most with moving to Amsterdam Edith and Anne often argued January 6, 1945 – died of starvation in Aushwitz

Margot Frank Anne’s sister
Born February 16, 1926 in Frankfurt, Germany Attended a Montessori school until when Jewish children were no longer allowed to go to school of their choice Goal was to be a nurse in Palestine Got call up notice on July 5, 1942 February or March, 1945 – she died of Typhus at 19 weeks before her sister died She also kept a diary, but it was never found

Herman and Auguste Van Pels (Van Daan)
Hermann 1937 they fled Germany for Netherlands worked for Mr. Frank Loved telling jokes, arguing about politics and building things September 6, 1944 – gasses in Aushwitz Auguste Born September 29, 1900 Described as “tempermental, flirty and chatty and a pessimist” Spring 1945, she died in a concentration camp

Peter Van Pels (Van Daan)
Born November 8, in Germany Only child He was 16 when they went into hiding He watched his father get marched into the gas chamber Died May 1945 after a death march

Fritz Pfeffer (Mr. Dussel)
Born April 30, 1889 in Giessen, Germany Served in German army in WWI Tried marrying his fiancé, but she was Christian and it was against the Nazi’s laws He had one son, Peter, whom he sent to live with Uncle in England He was a dentist, and Miep Gies was his patient He enjoyed sailing, riding and traveling Went into hiding on November 17, 1942 Died on December 20, 1944 in concentration camp

Miep Gies Born in Vienna in 1909
Sent to Netherlands after WWI with other children to recuperate from illness and malnutrition In 1933 she began working as secretary for Mr. Frank She helped keep the Franks in hiding for more than 2 years She was not arrested in the raid and was responsible for saving Anne’s diary Up until the age of 90 she traveled the world telling Anne’s story and helping at the Anne Frank House She died, January 11, 2010 at age of 100
