Presentation on theme: "Baptism in Holy Spirit was the Father's promise to send Holy Spirit to empower Jesus's disciples to be His witness regarding the Father's character, plan,"— Presentation transcript:

1 Baptism in Holy Spirit was the Father's promise to send Holy Spirit to empower Jesus's disciples to be His witness regarding the Father's character, plan, and purposes. By sending His only begotten son, He revealed Himself through Jesus's earthly ministry, death on the cross, rising from the dead, and ascension to His right hand.

2 The Plan of the Promise Luke 24 (49) and behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high. Acts 1(4-5 & 8)But to wait for what the Father had promised, “Which,” He said, “you heard of from Me; 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now; 8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses (mä'r-tüs-Martyr) both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” ( Jesus then ascended )

3 The Day of Pentecost Acts 2 (1-18)
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing them selves, and they rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.5 Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven. 6 And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language!!!!

4 7 They were amazed and astonished, saying, “Why, are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were born?9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya around Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretans and Arabs—we hear them in our own tongues speaking of the mighty deeds of God.” 12 And they all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13 But others were mocking and saying, “They are full of sweet wine.

5 14 But Peter, taking his stand with the eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: “Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you and give heed to my words. 15 For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day; 16 but this is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel:17 ‘AND IT SHALL BE IN THE LAST DAYS,’ God says, ‘THAT I WILL POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT ON ALL MANKIND; AND YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS SHALL PROPHESY, AND YOUR YOUNG MEN SHALL SEE VISIONS, AND YOUR OLD MEN SHALL DREAM DREAMS;18 EVEN ON MY BONDSLAVES, BOTH MEN AND WOMEN, I WILL IN THOSE DAYS POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT And they shall prophesy (The Message)

6 It’s not about tongues, it’s about the message!
1 Cor. 14(10-12 &18-19)  There are, perhaps, a great many kinds of languages in the world, and no kind is without meaning. 11 If then I do not know the meaning of the language, I will be to the one who speaks a barbarian, and the one who speaks will be a barbarian to me. 12 So also you, since you are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek to abound for the edification of the church.18 I thank God, I speak in tongues more than you all; 19 however, in the church I desire to speak five words with my mind so that I may instruct others also, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue. The use of tongues started the church because it spoke to the world of Jews who were gathered for the “first fruits,’' Pentecost. Once the church was established, tongues were for the believer’s edification. Paul stated unless there is the gift of interpretation It was more important to make sure the Message was clear.

7 The testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of Prophecy.
(The message) Rev 19(10) Then I fell at his feet to worship him. But he *said to me, “Do not do that; I am a fellow servant of yours and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus; worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” 1Cor 14(5) Now I wish that you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy; and greater is one who prophesies than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may receive edifying. "For God so loved the world…"

8 This baptism is about making you the temple.
Eze .36(27) “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances''. 1Cor 3(16) Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? Note: 2nd temple Judaism- the southern Kingdom of Judah and Benjamin (after returning from 70 years of captivity) were waiting for the promise of the Spirit of God to return to His Temple. Peter was declaring Joel's ancient prophecy had come true on this day of Pentecost, “I WILL POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT ON ALL MANKIND.”

9 I will pour out My Spirit in those days.
(Old Testament) Character and Promise of God Joel 2(13) And rend your heart and not your garments.” Now return to the LORD your God, For He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in loving kindness And relenting of evil. Joel 2(27)  “Thus you will know that I am in the midst of Israel, And that I am the LORD your God, And there is no other; And My people will never be put to shame. Joel 2(28-29)  “It will come about after this That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and daughters will prophesy, Your old men will dream dreams, Your young men will see visions.29 “Even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.

10 (N.T.) Purpose of the Baptism in the Spirit
John 14 (16,18,26) “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you''. John 16(13-15)  But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you. Hebrews 1(3a) And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power (The Father)

11 This Baptism is the Baptism of the Father's Love
Acts 2(33) “Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear. **** Romans 5(5) and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. “For God so loved the world…” “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you"

12 "Gods is Love" has always been Heaven's Message
1John 4(7-9) Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. Mark 12(28b-31), “What commandment is the foremost of all?” 29 Jesus answered, “The foremost is, ‘HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD; 30 AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.’ 31 The second is this, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” (The goal the Ten commandments.)

13 springing unto eternal life
Born again unto Salvation is a well springing unto eternal life John 4 (10,14)  Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

14 Born again unto Salvation is humanity’s immortality restored
John 20(19-21)  So when it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and *said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 And when He had said this, He showed them both His hands and His side. The disciples then rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and *said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit (Immortality restored) Gen 2(27) Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living (soul) being. 1Cor 15(45) So also it is written, “The first MAN, Adam, BECAME A LIVING SOUL.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

15 Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a river not a well.
John 7(37-39)  Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘from his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” 39 But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified ( Pentecost after the ascension ) The well of salvation is for you to drink of and be refreshed. The river the of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is the power of salvation that overflows to the world witnessing for Jesus.

16 Baptism in the Spirit’s Purpose
The power of the Baptism of the Father’s love is much more than convincing people to believe in Jesus so that they can go to heaven. The Foundation of the Baptism of Holy Spirit is a relational encounter with the Father. It's a transformational relationship with His sons and daughters. It empowers them to become His agents in bringing His values into earth. The gifts of the Spirit (The Father's Love language) is the supernatural ability to proclaim His message both in word and in deed. Word of Knowledge, Word of Wisdom, Gift of Prophecy, The gift of Faith, The gifts of healing, The Working of Miracles, Discerning of spirits, Different kinds of tongues, The interpretation of Tongues

17 The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is our cup
running over with His Presence. Psalms 23(1-6)  The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters.3 He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my *head with oil; My cup overflows. 6Surely goodness and loving kindness will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.*( came from above)  Point: Our filled cup is for our salvation. The baptism in Holy Spirit is His extravagant river of love flowing out of us into the world.
