Art II Art II is a class like no other art class you have taken so far in your school career. It is a relaxing and enjoyable classroom environment that allows for creative juices to flow. Unlike Art I, students will work on multiple self-lead project that allow students to have a bit more independence in the creation process. Students will also explore many art careers both through self-exploration and guest speaks. Students will be exposed to real life situations where they must meet with customers, brainstorm ideas, prepare works for customer consideration as well as working within production teams to execute a finished product.

Principles of Food (Semester course, HS credit)
In this course, students will gain knowledge in food selection criteria and apply preparation methods to promote a healthy lifestyle. Students will apply cooking methods, ingredient selection and nutritional information in the context of selected food dishes. Throughout the course, basic food safety and sanitation techniques will be emphasized.

Principles of Information Technology (semester, MS credit)
This first course in the IT career field is designed to provide students with a working knowledge of computer concepts and essential skills necessary for work and communication in today's society. Students will learn safety, security, and ethical issues in computing and social networking. Students will also learn about input/output systems, computer hardware and operating systems, and office applications. Students in the pre-engineering programs acquire knowledge and skills in problem solving, teamwork and innovation. Students explore STEM careers as they participate in a project-based learning process, designed to challenge and engage the natural curiosity and imagination of middle school students. Teams design and test their ideas using modeling, automation, robotics, mechanical and computer control systems, while exploring energy and the environment. In this course, students will learn the basics of building simple interactive applications. Students will learn the basic units of logic: sequence, selection, and loop. Students will apply algorithmic solutions to problem-domain scenarios. Students will gain experience in using commercial and open source languages, programs, and applications. Programming (Coding) Open to 8th-12th graders Must have taken Algebra I or be enrolled in Algebra I during Programming course Full year course HS credit

Students will learn the dynamics of the Web environment while pursuing an in-depth study of both Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). Web based protocols such as FTP, TCP/IP, and HTTP will be addressed. Students will create a website with tag text elements, special characters, lines, graphics, hypertext links, and graphical tables. Academic Assist If all of your required courses have been taken & there is room in your schedule, you may choose to take academic assist. You may have to make some tough choices – you only have 9 periods… You may take a semester or a full- year academic assist If you want an academic assist, please indicate that by circling it on your form.

ROX: Ruling Our eXperiences Organization Skills 101 One day per week during AA Discuss: safety & self-defense, healthy relationships, communication, current events & issues that girls are facing Rox is ungraded and there is no fee. One day per week during AA Organization, planning, and time management skills. OS 101 is ungraded and there is no fee.

Sample student schedule
Please flip your scheduling form over. Number 1-9 like the worksheet on the right. We are going to create a couple of sample schedules to make sure you select enough classes. List classes that you will take (required & optional) until you reach 9 periods. Don’t forget lunch!

Automatic High School Credit
Algebra I, Global language, Biology, FCS electives, Programming, Web Design, etc. are taken for high school credit. You cannot choose whether or not to accept the credit – it will automatically appear on your high school transcript. High school transcripts are used in the college acceptance process, military enlistment process, and are viewed by prospective employers. If you take a high school class and do not like the grade you receive, you can retake the class and the new grade will replace the old grade.

What does it mean to be an 8th grader?
You might be starting your high school transcript. You should be taking the main role for communicating with teachers & coaches/advisors. Your behavior sets the tone for what is acceptable in the school. You must prove to us that we can take you places C-TEC, Washington DC, End of the year class trips You are almost in high school!
