18 Christmas is my favorite festival of the year
Christmas is my favorite festival of the year. First of all, Christmas has the best food. I make chocolate chip and sugar cookies with my sisters. My family also has a traditional Christmas Eve and Christmas dinner. Also, I like to get presents for Christmas from my family and friends. It is fun to see what people think you will like. I always appreciate the time and effort my loved ones take in picking a gift for me. Last, Christmas is when I get to spend time with my family. I live far away from my family members, so it is only on Christmas when I get to see my entire family. I miss them so much all year, but I look forward to seeing them during Christmas. For these reasons, Christmas is the best festival of the year.

19 SUPPORT and EXAMPLES It is important to give details or examples to support your main idea. Opinion paragraphs make this easy. It is more difficult when writing academically. When creating an outline, make sure you have two or three supporting sentences for each topic.

20 Writing about Festivals
Look at your information. Organize your information about your Korean festival. Start with a topic sentence. Put similar details together. Use transition words and phrases to help your report sound more organized. Write details of your report on note cards, so that you can speak better

21 Let’s talk about Power points
For homework two weeks ago, you were asked to make short 5-10 slides of your power point. You were supposed to follow the instructions from class. Most of you did not. Most of your power points are very boring. Most of your power points have too much writing/text

22 Look at your power point
Does it have a title page with Name of your festival Our class name Your name and student number? Does it have a good picture/image of your festival

23 Headings Do your slides have headings?
Are they clear and easy to understand? Are they short? Do you have a good picture of what you will be talking about? You should only use VERY little text. Take out the words. You will speak about your festival, use your ppt to give your words images!

24 Pictures Where did you get your pictures?
Did you just go to one website and take all of your pictures? If so, why wouldn’t I just go to that website? Why waste my time listening to a presentation? Are any of the pictures YOUR pictures? If you take images from a website, you MUST say the name of the website on the slide.

25 Information Do your slides match the order of your report?
Is the information easy to understand from the picture you chose? Are you slides easy to follow? Is the picture clear?

26 Question slide At the end of your presentation, do you have a question slide? It is good to say “Thank you” but you should also give the audience a chance to ask questions.

27 Making your Presentation Fun
Most of you, for your presentation just got information from one website. Most of your presentations are very boring. How can you make a presentation more interesting? Make your own video! Create your own hand outs! Do a drama with friends! Wear a costume from the festival! Make a festival food and take pictures of it!

28 For your presentations
You can use video – but only if you make it yourself! You can go to the festival and take pictures! Try to make a traditional food or drink! Re-enact something important or interesting from the festival in class or on video to show the class. Make a game or activity to teach about the festival.

29 Week 8- Midterm 20% of your grade
On week 8, you will give full presentations in class about your Korean festival. You should have a good power point. You should use note cards to talk about your festival. You should make it fun/interesting. You should include useful information. You should use good public speaking skills.

30 Midterm – 20% of your grade
15% of your midterm grade will be your presentation, how you present, your ppt, your speaking skills and is it fun. 5% of your grade will be notes that you must take about other people’s presentations. After someone’s presentation, you will need to fill out an evaluation form. This will count as 5% of your grade.

31 Homework I want you to re-do and improve your power points.
Look very carefully at the “how to make a power point” ppt. Try to include more pictures and less writing. Make sure the slides match what you will talk about in your report. Next week, I want you to bring 1 print out of your improved ppt to class and 2 print outs of your report. Also, bring blank note cards!
