4 ANXIETY/HYPERVENTILATION (ALKALOSIS)
INCREASED breathing ↓ CO2 in blood shifts equilibrium to right decreases HCO3 – and H+ ions (pH increases) WHAT WILL ORGANS DO? Fainting slows breathing (less CO2 removed) Kidneys will excrete less HCO3-

5 HEAVY EXERCISE/SEVERE BURNS (CAUSES ACIDOSIS)
O2 shortage = more fermentation (reduced blood volume ↓ O2 to tissues) Release of acidic byproducts (lactic acid) ↑ H+ pH ↓ Equilibrium will shift to right WHAT WILL ORGANS DO? Kidneys will excrete MORE HCO3- INCREASED breathing to remove CO2

6 DIABETES (CAUSES ACIDOSIS)
If cells can’t take in glucose for respiration=more fermentation Release of acidic byproducts (lactic acid) ↑ H+ pH ↓ Equilibrium will shift to right WHAT WILL ORGANS DO? Kidneys will excrete MORE HCO3- INCREASED breathing will remove CO2
