2 Overwatch Modelling Process
Overwatch Modelling Process Overwatch is a game that came out in 2016 and it was made by Blizzard, a very big company with a lot of money. The video that i am watching for this case study is how they designed and animated the game. The process that i watched was shown how they drew up and started modeling the characters and the environment around the characters. You can see the basic drawing be animated then the actual model of the characters be brought to life. The Overwatch team have put a lot of effort into actually designing and animating the character so much so that when someone commented on one of the characters Tracer saying “It was out of character” they took that into account and redesigned her. When actually building the game they used their own engine, Blizzard are known to make their own engines due to other engines not being tailored for a specific genre. When making things like models they would generally use things like 3DS Max and or Maya although Maya is better for animation and 3DS Max is better for modeling. Very good.

3 The Walking Dead Animation/Motion Generation
The Walking Dead Animation/Motion Generation When making The Walking Dead they used visual effects in a lot of the TV show, especially when it came to making the crowd of zombies in the background as they could not hire over 100 people and afford to dress them up as zombies. They also use it in visual effects like when putting a sword through the chest or smashing a zombie head. When watching the video you can see the layers that they used to create certain visual effects, they would use a mixture of green screen and background effects. They used a pro version of Maya to create these different effects and would use it for modelling, rigging and animation for making the effects in The Walking Dead. The company that made the visual effects are called Stargate Studios and have continued to do the animations and effects since season 1. You have given the overview of the Animation/Motion generation here - Good. What is the process?

Process of Animation Pixar's Animation Process The process for animation can be long and hard depending on how long it is and what you want to animate, there are things like drawing, painting, sculpting and storytelling. For Pixar they have a specific process when it comes to animation: Story Ideas: The employees share their ideas and see if the “audience” agrees. Text Treatment: A short document is made to summarise all the main ideas of the story then the storyboard artist will fill in the rest when ready. Script: The script will be written after the idea and document is finished Storyboard:The storyboard will be hand-drawn and it will be drawn up by different artists using specific guidelines then pitch their ideas to the director. Voice Talent: Temporary “scratch” voices are recorded by the artists for the storyboard reels. Then when they find the actors for the characters the have to record the lines seven different ways and the best reading is used and then they replace the “scratch” with the new voice over. Animation Software: In the software that they use like Maya they do things like 3 dimensional modeling, lighting, settings and animation will be done using this software and they use different layers for each so it gives each of them a purpose. After they have done all of this they will render it to make sure that it runs smoothly. Finishing Touches: They just make sure that everything runs smoothly and that things are in the right order.

Application The intended application of Autodesk’s software program ‘Maya’ is to create and animate 3D objects/assets to be applied in films, TV shows, games, etc. The application helps creators bring their ideas and concepts to life through 3D and 2D modelling and animation. It’s clear that the software lives up to the high standards as projects like The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Monsters Inc., etc. have had elements created using Maya. Good.
