Fundraising Toolkit General information

Who we are The Breast Cancer Family Foundation (BCFF) was incorporated in 1999 as a 501(c)3 non-profit in Green Bay, Wisconsin. With an initial focus on women facing breast cancer and their families or caregivers, the BCFF has developed into the primary resource for providing education on cancer awareness and prevention to the youth and families of Northeastern Wisconsin. In 2007, Dr. Lora Warner from Planning and Evaluation Associates conducted a community study which confirmed Breast Cancer Family Foundation is the only provider of school-based educational programs on cancer - “a distinct area of strength for the Breast Cancer Family Foundation and a strong contribution to the community”.

what we do The Breast Cancer Family foundation’s mission is to “Inspire people in our community to lead cancer-free healthy lifestyles”. We achieve this by providing cancer awareness and prevention presentations on all types of cancer to local schools, businesses, and community groups. Our target audience is teens age (typically the freshman health class). At this age, teens are beginning to accept responsibility for more of their lifestyle decision making (i.e. what to eat, whether to exercise, etc.). Our presentations stress that the lifestyle choices made today can help decrease the chances of getting cancer later in life. Programs feature information on all types of cancer - early detection, treatment, prevention, risk reduction, and healthy lifestyle habits.

Community impact Since September 2001, the Breast Cancer Family Foundation has presented educational programs to almost 70,000 students in Northeast Wisconsin. In 2014, our reach expanded into Central Wisconsin, reaching an additional 1,300 students. In addition, we reach thousands of adults each year through presentations at local businesses, civic groups as well as numerous other community organizations. Programming includes: Cancer awareness, early detection methods, and treatment options Healthy lifestyle choices (nutrition, exercise, detection, etc.) that can be adopted now to help reduce the risk of developing cancer Healthy snacks for each student Self-examination literature “MOM” cards – a card for each student to give to an important person in their lives to encourage annual exams and cancer screenings

Student feedback “Since the presentation, I have started being more cautious. I have also been making sure my family is safe too. I have been telling my dad to wear sunscreen to work since he works outside. Thanks again!” ~Skye (student) “I feel better about cancer thanks to you. I now know many different ways to prevent myself from getting cancer. I have a family history of cancer deaths.” ~Adam “I learned a lot about the importance of cancer and how it really can affect someone’s life. My grandpa is currently going through this so it’s nice to have insight on what he’s going through.” ~McKenzie “Thank you for taking time out of your day to come to our school and talk to us about cancer. It really means a lot to me because my great Aunt Gloria was fighting cancer for a couple of years and she did chemo and radiation, and we didn’t think she was going to live any longer, but she did. Her cancer cleared up. Now my great Uncle Marlin has it and is not supposed to live very much longer. It helped me kind of understand what they have to go through.” ~Destiny “My mother actually passed away 3 ½ years ago, so I knew some of the things you said but all your teaching made me think more about it. The thing that interested me was the skin cancer and the type of moles to look for.” ~Paige
