What’s a “Job Club” Support group of unemployed people who meet regularly at a church, public library, or community center to share networks and job resources Networking: expand professional contacts Training: LinkedIn, video résumés, self-marketing Counseling: grief, motivational, spiritual “Networking Table” at McLean Bible Church Career Network Ministry, which meets Tuesday evenings from 6-9pm in Virginia. Job Clubs go by many names, such as Career Ministries, Networking Groups, Job Search Groups, Work Search Roundtables, Transitioners, and more.

How Many and Where 4 Estimated #: 4,000 to 6,000 active job clubs; direct relationship with cycles of economy, though expected to change Locations: urban, suburban, and rural; states with most active job clubs: Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Georgia, Virginia, Minnesota, Missouri, Florida Workforce Partnerships: limited but growing partnerships with One Stops (CA, FL, GA, KY) and community colleges (OH, IL) Field of Practice: localized and very limited with a handful of emerging intermediaries & networks: Crossroads Career Network, Faith Advocates for Jobs, NACJC

Field Building: national Job Club directory; national/regional events; bi- weekly coordinators call; online community of practice: Partnership Development: Training & Employment Notice to workforce investment system, One-Stops, community colleges, grantees Training & TA: network of experts and models; individual consultations; group training sessions Faith leaders and lay staff gathered at the new Brevard County One Stop on September 15, 2011 for a training on how to start a job club.

Facebook, DOL, NACE, DE, NASWA Survey research on use of social web in job search Use of Facebook to post jobs Promote social web, resources, programs Facebook, DOL, the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), DirectEmployers Association (DE), and the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA). Description Facebook, the U.S. Department of Labor, the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), DirectEmployers Association (DE), and the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) created the ‘Social Jobs Partnership.’ The partnership’s goal will be to facilitate employment for America’s jobless through the use of social networks. General Information In the interest of getting people back to work, the partnership plans to pursue a number of initiatives designed to more effectively leverage the utility of social networks in the job market: 1. The partnership will conduct in-depth survey research about the ways in which job seekers, college career centers, and workforce recruiters are using the social web. 2. The partnership will develop and ...launch a central page on Facebook that will host specialized resources, and content designed to help job seekers and employers. 3. The partnership will explore and develop systems where new job postings can be delivered virally through the Facebook site at no charge. 4. The partnership will promote existing employment programs and resources offered by government agencies for job hunters. 5. The partnership plans to distribute educational materials about leveraging the power of the social web to recruiters, government agencies and job seekers
