2 Objectives Identify current national, state, and local trends. Review the comprehensive approach model to suicide prevention. Discuss local action and initiatives.

3 Define the Problem Suicide: Death caused by self-directed injurious behavior with any intent to die as a result of the behavior.

5 National Data Every 12.95 minutes an American dies by suicide.
On average 117 suicides per day. 42,773 Americans died by suicide in 2015. Over one million people die annually by suicide globally.

6 National Data It is estimated that 1 million Americans attempt suicide every year. Research shows that for every suicide there are 25 suicide attempts.

11 Local Data Suicide has been the third leading cause of death in Tarrant county from 2011 to 2015. We see the same trends nationally and state wide with twice as many suicides compared to the homicide rates.
