Premiere Editing, Continued
2
Setup Work with any existing project
We will be exploring more editing tools for the timeline Also exploring beginning video effects
3
Multiple Video tracks There are multiple video tracks (and audio) labelled V1, V2, V3 You can drag clips from either Bin or Source window to any track Video in higher level tracks “Plays over” video in lower tracks Can use this to assemble multiple shots while repositioning as needed; alternative to placing them back to back and editing indivually Audio from all video tracks will play (merged)
4
Multiple Video tracks, cont.
You can create additional video tracks by right clicking the black area just above the highest video track, choose Add Tracks Then enter number of audio or video tracks you want, choose position, hit OK
5
Timeline (Sequence) Tools
Selection Tool Top single arrow (blue in screenshot) Move a clip directly around in timeline, doesn’t effect other clips
6
Timeline (Sequence) Tools
Select Track Forward (and Backward) tools Forward: Useful for inserting video – we move the selected clip and all clips behind (it to the right of selected clip - in multiple video tracks) to “reposition” the video, while maintaining all transitions, durations, audio synchronization, etc Backward – same thing, but selected clip and all clips to left of it
7
Timeline (Sequence) Tools
Ripple Edit Use on beginning or end of a clip, drag that clip Drag right, extends the out point previously set in sequence (can’t be used beyond end of clip) Drag left, shortens selected clip Automatically repositions all other content in the sequence timeline to be “snug” – ie, match up to the edited clip
8
Timeline (Sequence) Tools
Rolling Edit Use where two clips touch on timeline Dragging right will extend clip on left, shorten clip on right Use when two clips have been shortened in In and Out, AND (usually) are same action
9
Timeline (Sequence) Tools
Rate Stretch Tool Use on end of clip (with room to right if extending right – might need to do track forward first?) Sets playback rate/duration while leaving contents of frames the same – can “speed up” or “slow down” a clip – maybe for fastforward, or to slightly speed up a video to meet a required duration
10
Timeline (Sequence) Tools
Razor tool Cuts Audio and Video track Used if you want to extract a chunk out of a sequence to delete, or perhaps use with other tools (i.e. ripple edit)
11
Timeline (Sequence) Tools
Slip tool Changes the in and out points of a clip (“slipping “the visible range) Keeps the exact existing duration If we had a clip with an in point at 0:0:5:00 seconds, out at 0:0:10:00, could slide one second to left, setting new in point at 0:0:4:00 seconds, out at 0:0:9:00, but keeping exact duration of clip on timeline 5 seconds
12
Timeline (Sequence) Tools
Slide tool Move a clip to the left or right in a Timeline while simultaneously trimming the two clips that surround it The combined duration of the three clips, and the location of the group in the Timeline, remain unchanged If sliding left, will simultaneously shorten clip to left and extend clip to right Best used with synchronized action
13
Timeline (Sequence) Tools
Slide tool Move a clip to the left or right in a Timeline while simultaneously trimming the two clips that surround it The combined duration of the three clips, and the location of the group in the Timeline, remain unchanged If sliding left, will simultaneously shorten clip to left and extend clip to right Best used with synchronized action
14
Timeline (Sequence) Tools
Misc Pen tool – used with keyframes, more later Hand - grab and drag timeline to navigtate timeline Zoom – zoom timeline in and out
15
Timeline (Freeze Hide Show)
Lock Icon (arrow A) used to Freeze one or more channels – can’t be moved or changed with other tools Double clicking a track near arrow B will expand the view of track to show thumbnails of video A B
16
Unlink Audio/Video Useful for removing audio or video from timeline for giveb clip Lets you freely move, resync, or just shift audio for a video clip Based on clip audio – other audio assets are freely movable in A1, A2 tracks
17
Audio Gain Useful for “bringing up” audio to change volume
Opens a dialog – here, can set normalization on a channel In most cases, if a sound is to soft, or it’s too loud (harsh noise at “noisy” parts) Nimralize All Peaks to 0 DB may help Better to capture good audio than fix bad audio
18
Scale to Frame Size Discuss frame sizes more later, but…
Sequence has a frame size We might be using a frame size if 1920x1080 (common HD) If a video was shot with a smaller resolution (top picture shot on old iPod nano) it will appear small Scale to frame size will make it appear “full screen”, but… Won’t make it widescreen if it wasn’t before! Scaled video quality will be worse than native resolution
19
Timeline Settings Useful for setting timeline settings like how are thumbnails shown? Options – beginning , beginning/end, or continuous
20
Source Window – Insert Insert button will take the active In/out range, and insert it directly where playback head is in sequence Notice in top picture it’s in the middle of a video… And if I hit Insert, it splits the old clip (beginning shown with arrow a, inserted clip is arrow b, remaining content of old clip is arrow c) A B C
21
Source Window – Overwrite
Overwrite button “deletes” anything from the blue marker’s position in the sequence, up to the duration of your clip (from source window) If I hit Overwrite, old clip (arrow a) is cut at blue marker, remainder is overwritten with countent from source (arrow b) A B
22
Source Window – Buttons
The Plus symbol in the source gives us the ability to add a few other buttons for navigating source clips It opens the Editor – can drag other icons down (hover for info on what they do) Hit ok or cancel to save button layout
