Vicky: APICS is offering great incentives to our partners, corporations and individuals to encourage early involvement in the program. As Bob mentioned, we need over 200 non-instructor exam candidates between October 1st and December 1st in order to hold the Cut Score event and determine the raw passing score; the more people we can have ready to test in September and October, the better it will be for the Cut Score process. Channel Partners will be able to purchase an Instructor Kit bundle – which includes a Learning System as soon as it is available (in early July) AND the Instructor Resource Guide and PowerPoints in November – all for US$ I highly recommend this option for anyone interested in teaching CLTD. Channel Partners will also be able to purchase a CLTD Learning System for $100 off before October 1st. Then between October 1st and Dec 31st, partners can purchase a CLTD Learning System for $50 off. That’s $100 off and then $50 off of your price level. Bob: There are offers on the exam as well. Exams purchased between July 1st and October 1st, with an exam date scheduled before December 31st, will get a $100 discount and a free retake, if needed. The free retake must be taken in the first six months of 2017. Exams purchased between October 1 and before Dec 31 will only get the $100 discount. Goal: 200+ non-instructors participating in CLTD pilot (October 1 – December 1, 2016)

10 About the Program Personal Comments Great Learning System
Will be very hard for entry level people (Recommend to take CPIM first) Market Managers and Higher Level People in All Types of Industries Instructors Experienced and Very Well Prepared

11 About the Program Personal Comments
Questions in the Learning System Need to be Polished There are Questions at the end of some session that were not covered Recommend to use the Same Course Format (Hours, etc) and Prices as CSCP

12 Mr. Ravindra Tulsyan, CFPIM, CIRM, CSCP
Chairman and Chief Mentor,  KnoWerX Education (India) Private Limited I think, I am the first person globally to take CLTD exam first. I used CLTD Learning System to prepare for the exam. I found the section quizzes in the CLTD Learning System very tough, confusing questions, confusing answers and right answers that were not necessarily the best. There were questions where different companies may act differently resulting in different right answers. My section quiz scores were between 48% and 80% but more towards 50%. When I walked into the exam, I was not confident of passing at all. I felt highly under-prepared. However, as I had a free retake, I took the plunge. To my surprise, the exam questions and answers were not confusing but were very clear and rational. I am confidant that I will pass the exam. I was out of the test center (150 questions) after 2 hours. So, I think, the CLTD Learning System quizzes have much higher level of difficulty than the real CLTD exam.

13 Thanks Ravi for sharing,
Mr. Chaim Silberstein, CFPIM, CIRM, CSCP  President,  C.S. Consulting Associates Inc. Thanks Ravi for sharing, I feel the same regarding the pretest and surprisingly score in the same range as you, so I guess I am ready to write the exam.

14 Pilot Classes (Colorado Chapter Experience)
In August and September Pilot classes were held by the Colorado Chapter in Denver and the Chicago Chapter in Chicago. The Classes were held for 6 Saturdays in Chicago and 5 Saturdays in Denver. We did them in parallel as close as we could. Each week after class we met to discuss the results, changes, questions.

15 Pilot Classes We used 5 instructors at the Colorado Chapter. Each instructing for 2 half-day sessions of the 5 weeks. Instructors were: Roger Harris, Honey Johnson, Joe Grigg, Bob Abeyta and Harry McClintock We actually finished all the CLDT material in 4.7 days but feel that the program should be scheduled for 5.5 days or so, to allow time for discussion.

16 Pilot Class The Colorado Class had 10 paid participants.

17 Lessons Learned The class had higher-level, more experienced participants than most CSCP and CPIM classes. Students had a lot of logistics and transportation experience and knowledge With students this knowledgeable, it requires the instructor to really know the material and to use the experience of the class to everyone’s benefit.

18 Lessons Learned The class probably should be scheduled for hours of instruction. Students should purchase the CLTD slide books. There were almost 800 ppt slides Some slides were eliminated but overall I think we added several dozen slides So when released in Nov., the slide count should exceed 800

19 Lessons Learned One of the major areas of discussion on our team were the ppts that posed questions. They were placed before the material in the student guides Most instructors on both teams thought that many of the questions did not have clear answers and led to too much debate We did not feel this was a good use of time APICS and Holmes agreed to delete these slides and questions from the ppts.

20 Lessons Learned In some cases there were figures or diagrams in the student books that there were not ppts for in the instructor guides APICS and Holmes agreed to add ppts for these diagrams as many of them are good to explain to students.

21 Lessons Learned Many of our instructor discussions let to updates and explanations in the instructor guides. As you may imagine, you take 10 instructors/SME’s and discuss topics and how to explain it and you get a lot opinions. On most items we all came to consensus and APICS and Holmes were very good at listening to us.

22 Class Materials Slide books and instructor guides will be updated before the November release date. Student books will not be updated until the beginning of 2018 We did suggest some changes that will be considered but not until the update in Jan 2018

23 Suggestions for CLTD Courses
Many areas of knowledge and experience are required. Suggest you use multiple instructors that are knowledgeable in several areas of Logistics, Transportation and Distribution There is some overlap with CSCP and CPIM but most is material not traditionally in APICS programs

24 Suggestions for CLTD Courses
Allow the 48 hours of instruction just in case you need it Allow plenty of time for instructor preparation, especially the first time though the class. Some areas that seemed to spark a lot of class discussion: Incoterms, Rail transportation and rail car types, Road transportation and truck/trailer types

25 Suggestions for CLTD Courses
Areas of discussion (continued) International shipping paperwork, terms that may be listed in the material like Dray, Stem Distance, Drop Distance, etc. Be prepared to discuss many terms that are listed or described in the materials. In our class there were many folks that used these concepts in their daily work life

26 Suggestions for CLTD Courses
The instructor material and student material was created in much the same format as the CSCP program. It seemed to be well received when we supplemented the material with pictures of transportation topics, Warehouses, Panama Canal, Railroad items, Trucking pictures, etc.

27 Conclusions Do not underestimate how much material there is to cover.
Many APICS instructors will not be familiar with all of these subjects, especially in Logistics and Transportation. I have a Masters in Transportation and Distribution and had to spend quite a bit of time preparing to instruct this class.

28 Good luck This new material is a welcome addition to the APICS BOK
I am sure you will find things that need correction and clarification Our Pilot classes’ suggested changes are only the beginning and there will be many more improvements, I am sure.

29 Thank you! Roger Harris, VP Education, Colorado Chapter
Luis Barcón, Supreme Governor of Mexican Chapters. 
