4. Evaporation Evaporation is when a liquid turns into a gas.
Evaporation happens when the sun heats up the liquid water and causes it to turn into a gas.

5. Evaporation
As the sun rises, it heats up the lake and water evaporates into the air.

6. Condensation Condensation is when a gas turns into a liquid.
When water vapor in the air cools down, it becomes liquid water.

7. Condensation
Condensation happens when the water that has evaporated from the Earth’s rivers, lakes and oceans comes into contact with something cold and turns into liquid water.
Clouds form from condensation.

8. Precipitation Precipitation is when water falls back to Earth as Rain
Snow
Sleet
hail

9. Runoff Some water runs off of the land and into the ocean.
Some collects down into the ground.

10. Water cycles through plants
Plants drink in water from the ground and lose water through their roots in a process called transpiration.

11. Animals
Animals drink in water and lose water through breathing, sweating and urinating.
