3 About the Bay Area Quick Facts: 101 cities, 9 counties
7.3 million people 400 miles of Bay shoreline (= to ½ the entirety of CA coastline) Growing Social Inequities: SF - $1.1 median home price Oakland rent rising fastest in US Low wage, high wage jobs

4 Bay Area Vulnerabilities
Highest density development, significant transportation corridors and other critical infrastructure build along shoreline Many shoreline communities and businesses rely on ad-hoc flood protection to stay dry during extreme tides and storm events. Some of these ad-hoc systems are roadways and rail lines. Over $21 billion in new development underway

5 Need Proactive Regional Approach
Bay is like a bathtub, decisions of one community impact another Short term solutions will buy time, however the Bay Area needs broader, system- wide solutions to address local challenges

6 Design Goals: Create innovative and implementable design solutions that provide resilience through the end of the century; Reflect the Bay Area’s diverse population and geographies; Enhance the ecological and economic vitality of the Bay and the region; Create opportunities for collaboration among a wide variety of stakeholders; and Improve access to the Bay for everyone.
