1 HP Indigo 10000 for Publishing:
Overview Jan 2013

2 Indigo makes run-lengths of 1-1,500 a reality for high quality books
Indigo VP targeted at those pages that need to be printed on HP Indigo because of; Print quality Substrate choice Ink coverage Offset / Photo quality Consistency within run, between runs, between jobs & between presses Color coverage at 97% of Pantone color range Unlimited paper range for roll-fed presses: gsm 2500+ certified sheet-fed papers : gsm (coated, uncoated, specialty) 1,100+ environmentally certified media Medium & high coverage applications are very cost-effective under click model No problems with waviness or saturation of the paper stock as a ‘rule-of-thumb’ look for those applications that have low print cost AS A PROPORTION of retail value.

3 HP Indigo 10000 increases the addressable market for book printers
The larger format size of the Indigo 10000, increases the number of high quality book jobs that are addressable by extending in 3 key areas; Application fit Binding options Imposition efficiency

4 1. Application Fit HP Indigo opens up applications not previously possible1; Soft covers with thick spines or flaps e.g. US Letter (8.5”x11” / 216mm x 280mm) with spine > 1” A4 / US Letter hard covers Dust-jackets These can now be done for the 1st time in short-runs with HP Indigo quality   1 can be done cross-grain on Indigo W72X0

5 2. Binding Options HP Indigo enables standard 8pp &16pp folded signatures, as well as other binding forms (incl. high automation of perfect bound with SmartStacker) Critical for high quality books that require sewn binding Strength of binding Lay-open characteristics Aesthetically more pleasing Or just for book printers that prefer to work with a signature workflow Opens up range of new categories including coffee table books, art books, scholarly books etc.

6 3. Imposition Efficiency
Portrait Landscape 330 mm 484 mm /29.5’’ /20.9’’ HP Indigo has a more efficient imposition for some book formats improving productivity e.g. Pages: 140mm x 216mm (5.5”x 8.5”) – 250%1 170mm x 240mm (6.7” x 9.5”) – 400%1 230mm x 300mm (9.1” x 11.8”) – 400%1 Covers 240mm x 240mm (9.5” x 9.5”) – 300%1 Pushing BEP up to 1,400 for some colour books, and 5,000 for some book covers 140mm x 216mm (5.5”x 8.5”) = 4-up on 7600 and 10-up on 10000 170mm x 240mm (6.7” x 9.5”) = 2-up on 7600 and 8-up on 10000 230mm x 300mm (9.1” x 11.8”) = 1-up on 7600 and 4-up on 10000 1 compared to imposition on Indigo 7600

7 Productivity further boosted by Finishing benefits
HP Indigo eliminates labour intensive / time- consuming processes required in traditional offset finishing; gathering and stacking signatures, or collating and stacking if working with cut pages Productivity further boosted by adding automated finishing to deliver cut, collated & stacked blocks or folded signatures; no manual set-up no waste automatic error recovery

8 Target Applications for HP Indigo 10000
Coffee Table / Art Books Covers & Jackets Academic Books Trade Books Children’s Books STM Books & Journals as a ‘rule-of-thumb’ look for those applications that have low print cost AS A PROPORTION of retail value.

9 HP Indigo 10000 comparison with Indigo W7250
Benefits of Indigo W7250: Higher up-time as roll-fed eliminates paper jams 15% lower media costs as bought ‘off-the-shelf’ with ILP Lower TCO for some standard applications that impose well A5 6’x9’ (148mm x 210) A4 8.5’ x 11’ (210mm x 297mm) Large image area (317mm x 980mm) for covers & dust-jackets Limitations of Indigo W7250: Narrow format limits imposition options Long-grain only rolls reduce imposition efficiency for A4 and many covers / jackets when right-grain required Frequent substrate changes are time-consuming Signatures possible only with specific MBO finishing that delivers concertina fold signatures When should you recommend an Indigo W7250? Low number of papers used (infrequent changes) Application is for A5 pages that do not require standard signatures Application is for A4 pages and neither right- grain nor standard signatures are required If the application will ‘fit’ on the W7250 (fit including not just imposition, but grain direction and finishing requirements) then it should always be cheaper to do it on that press.

10 HP Indigo 10000 comparison with 2x Indigo 7600
Benefits of 2x Indigo 7600: Redundancy Lower TCO on some standard jobs that impose efficiently A5 6’x9’ (148mm x 210) A4 8.5’ x 11’ (210mm x 297mm) Limitations of 2x Indigo 7600 : Narrow format limits Jobs e.g. dust jackets, covers with thick spines or flaps, hard covers etc. standard signatures when required by binding or workflow Lower TCO for some job formats 140mm x 216mm (5.5”x 8.5”) pages 170mm x 240mm (6.7” x 9.5”) pages and covers 230mm x 300mm (9.1” x 11.8”) pages 240mm x 240mm (9.5” x 9.5”) covers When should you recommend 2x Indigo 7600? When main applications fit 2-up / 4-up on Indigo 7600 and 4-up / 8-up on Indigo10000 (i.e. A5 or A4 formats) AND these jobs do not require signatures If the application will ‘fit’ on the W7250 (fit including not just imposition, but grain direction and finishing requirements) then it should always be cheaper to do it on that press.

11 Portfolio Decision Tree
Does Application Fit Narrow Format*? Yes Frequent Substrate Changes? Yes No No Is Expected Volume High (>3m ppm)? No Yes HP INDIGO 10000 HP INDIGO W7250 HP INDIGO 7600 *incl. grain direction

12 Summary: New applications, standard signatures and better imposition efficiencies for some book formats, together with productivity gains from digital finishing solutions Makes the HP Indigo a perfect fit for book printers; working with a wide variety of format sizes, substrates and finishing requirements, and who are looking for a solution for affordable high quality print runs from a single copy to 1,500 or more.
