Let's start with Mathematics...
3
How is Math Placement Determined?
Placement into 9th grade will be determined using the following criteria: Benchmark = skills currently being taught 2. Skills test (provided by high school); can use calculators; sent to high school for grading 3. Current placement

Math Course Sequencing
A copy of this chart is in the Parent Handbook and on school website.
5
Computer Programming Courses - electives
Computer and BASIC Programming (Full Year) **placement test option** AP Computer Science Principles no programming experience C++/Java (1 language per semester) AP Computer Science (Full Year)

Frequently Asked Questions:
Can students change levels? Traditionally, students finding success will not move levels year to year; however, if the student and teacher feel that a different level would be a more appropriate placement, students can move. 2. What options are there to take Calculus in high school if I am in Algebra I in ninth grade? The best way to accelerate through the program is to double up with Geometry A and Algebra II A. 3. Does computer science count as a math course? AP Computer Science may count as a math course for graduation requirement.
7
Frequently Asked Questions (cont.):
4. What is the Academic Review Class? A student is placed in Academic Review Courses if he/she is identified by State and/or District testing as needing additional help and support to successfully complete the PARCC assessment. 5. Are their mathematics electives? Yes, Discrete Math and Statistics (formal and project based). **Academic Review courses and non-AP Computer courses do not count as math courses for graduation requirements.

How is Science Placement Determined?
Placement into 9th grade will be determined using the following criteria: SRI (Stanford Reading Index) 2. Benchmark = concepts currently taught (Study guide was provided) 3. Biology reading assessment (provided by high school); Given to students 2 days prior to Quiz administration; open ended graded by high school 4. Scientific Skills assessment (provided by high school) 9
