7. What is AMCA? THE CERTIFIED RATINGS PROGRAM
The AMCA Certified Ratings Program (CRP) was created to assure that manufacturer’s published performance ratings are reliable and accurate.
How the AMCA CRP works:
Companies send products to AMCA for testing
AMCA tests products for parameters specified
AMCA checks its data against manufacturer literature
The purpose of AMCA’s certified ratings program is to assure buyers, users and specifiers that manufacturer’s published performance ratings are reliable and accurate.

9. Step 1: Select an AMCA-Certified Product Type
AMCA certifies specific product types, so make sure the product you’re specifying is on the list of products within AMCA’s scope!
Make sure that the product is one AMCA certifies
Many of the components within an air handling unit, for example, can be AMCA certified
but AMCA does not certify air handling units

Make sure the product is certified by checking AMCA’s online product search
The next step is to make sure the product is certified

12. Step 2: Find AMCA-Certified Products
Search by company name, product type, country, or license type for the following certifications:
Air performance
Efficiency
Acoustic duct silencer
Sound
FEG (fan efficiency grade)
Induced flow fan
Air leakage
Positive pressure ventilator
Circulating fan
Water penetration
Wind driven rain
Airflow measurement station
CFM per watt
The next step is to make sure the product is certified

13. Step 3: Verify Specific Certified Performance Parameters
A product may only be certified for specific parameters
To verify parameters, view approved manufacturer literature found or referenced in AMCA’s online product search.
A product certified for a general license type, such as sound, may only be certified for specific parameters
For example, a fan may be certified to display the AMCA sound and air performance seal but only be certified for inlet LwA sound and air performance, not hemispherical sones or octave bands.
To verify specific certified parameters, view approved manufacturer literature found or referenced in AMCA’s online database.

14. Step 4: Write a Specification That Ensures AMCA-Certified Products Get Installed
AMCA publications should be referenced in a spec.
Consider the following exemplary language for your specification:
“Fans shall comply with AMCA Publication 11 to bear the AMCA Certified Ratings Program seal for air performance and sound performance”
“Louvers will be licensed to bear the AMCA Certified Ratings Program seal for wind driven sand resistance in compliance with AMCA Publication 11”
AMCA publications provide guidance or outline the rules of the AMCA Certified Ratings Program.
Because AMCA publications may contain the requirements needed for a product to be certified, it is encouraged to reference them in a specification.
Here are some examples of language that can be used in a spec. …
Publications that relate to the AMCA Certified Ratings Program can be identified by their designation, which will end in “11” or “12”

15. Step 4: Write a Specification That Ensures AMCA-Certified Products Get Installed
What NOT to say in your specification
“Tested in accordance with [a particular test standard]” or
“Tested in an AMCA or AMCA-accredited laboratory”
Do not include the following language in your specification without providing additional clarification:
“Tested in accordance with [a particular test standard]”
A product that was tested in accordance with an AMCA standard is not necessarily an AMCA-certified product.
If you include this language without referencing compliance with AMCA 11-series publications, you open the door to a possible uncertified product substitution.
“Tested in an AMCA or AMCA-accredited laboratory.”
Just because a product was tested at AMCA does not mean it passed AMCA’s checks or that the manufacturer’s data was deemed accurate.

16. Step 5: Verify Certification Authenticity
The following are ways to verify the product you receive is indeed AMCA certified:
Verify the actual product against the specified product
Verify certification in AMCA’s online product search
Check for online violations
Verify the product has the correct AMCA seal
Here are some steps you can take to verify:
VERIFY THE ACTUAL PRODUCT AGAINST THE SPECIFIED PRODUCT
At submittal, installation and commissioning, verify the selected product matches the product specification.
VERIFY CERTIFICATION IN THE ONLINE DATABASE
Go to AMCA’s online database and search by product, company, country or license type to verify certification.
CHECK ONLINE FOR VIOLATIONS
Go to AMCA’s online certified products violations database to see lists of unlicensed products, program violation notices and products with licenses withdrawn.
VERIFY THE PRODUCT HAS THE CORRECT AMCA SEAL
AMCA-certified products do not have to have a seal on them. But if there is a seal, check AMCA resources to verify the seal reflects the correct certification

Verify that product and company names match the AMCA certification
Look for misleading representations in product literature
It is a violation to show the AMCA member logo with product performance data because readers may conclude this product is AMCA certified, which may not be accurate.
Steps to verify, continued:
VERIFY THAT PRODUCT AND COMPANY NAMES MATCH THE AMCA CERTIFICATION
If an AMCA-certified product is sold to and renamed by a different company (nameplated), the renamed product must have its own AMCA certification to ensure product performance.
LOOK FOR MISLEADING REPRESENTATIONS IN PRODUCT LITERATURE
The AMCA seal can only be associated directly with a certified product.
For example, an AMCA seal cannot be placed on the cover of a brochure that includes both certified and uncertified products. This is a strict AMCA requirement that helps avoid misrepresentation, usually unintentional, by manufacturers.
Also, the AMCA member logo does not indicate certification. It just means that the company is a member of AMCA
Best practice is to reference approved product literature in the online database
