Education recipients will know BIM Education recipients have market value Top level education in Czech Republic CTU in Prague, FCE

17 Where to start? There are so many things to consider!
How is the environment? (legislation, public support ...) What we want to achieve? What BIM actually is? What is the importance of BIM compared to other things? What does practice want and need? How can we implement BIM into curriculum? Who can teach it? What should we teach? ... CTU in Prague, FCE

18 Results We do teach BIM at our university
We constantly try to improve the way we do it We learned a lot during implementation process We had some success We had some fails CTU in Prague, FCE

19 Best practices and obstacles
BIM is not clearly defined Define what BIM is for you Standards and literature Qualification and practice Collaborate and communicate with others BIMTG collaboration across specializations Small team to sustain flexibility, beware of lack of expertise Learn what you need teach and what others need you to teach Continuity CTU in Prague, FCE

20 Best practices and obstacles
BIM is just a tool But it is very advanced tool It is not like using computer to draw lines Get rid of rigid thinking and be open to changes FCE example Try to find a way how to implement BIM into existing curriculum Innovation of existing subjects CTU in Prague, FCE

21 Best practices and obstacles
Legislation and process obstacles may be fatal Know the environment Legislation rules and related processes Learn about system and behind-the-curtains customs Be patient Sometimes it takes time CTU in Prague, FCE

22 Best practices and obstacles
Know what you are doing Long-term vision is necessary BIM is changing fast Be willing to learn Take innovative approach CTU in Prague, FCE

23 Best practices and obstacles
There will be blood Many people does not fully understand BIM Many people are afraind of BIM Embrace for impact Be pro-active Be prepared to teach people on different level Everyone is interested in different things Everyone knows different things CTU in Prague, FCE

24 Best practices and obstacles
Do not be afraid Teaching something is better than teaching nothing In most cases Be humble To not be one of that minor cases CTU in Prague, FCE

25 Best practices and obstacles
Content is complicated Try to fit content to listener/student Look into the future Modern technologies changes fast Students will carry innovation Maintain continuity and collaboration Be both broad and specific CTU in Prague, FCE

26 Best practices and obstacles
There are more, of course. CTU in Prague, FCE

27 Conclusion BIM education is not as simple as it seems
But it is fun and it can be done It takes a lot of time, compared to other disciplines Demand for it is tremendous Shouldn‘t we rather teach PIM or IPD today? Aren‘t we past BIM already? CTU in Prague, FCE

28 The End Thank you for your attention Petr Matějka
