3 Mission The Early College mission is to prepare students to be critical thinkers, responsible citizens, and confident leaders while receiving rigorous and relevant instruction that results in the attainment of secondary baccalaureate degree and promotes personal responsibility for lifelong learning and philanthropy.

5 Alpha Academy Purpose- To help students transition and prepare for the upcoming school year. Description- Students will participate in activities at ECAS and LSC. The activities will help students become familiar with each other, both campuses, and with the culture of ECAS. Dates, times, locations, dress July 30-31; 8A-12P, ECAS, dress is casual, August 4-6; 8A-12P, LSC, dress is school appropriate- Alpha shirt required

6 Scholarship Ceremony Purpose- The yearly ritual of induction to Early College and acceptance of the “scholarship” to Lone Star College serves to celebrate the student’s decision to take the road less travelled Description Dates, times, locations, dress August 6, 6:30 – 7:30, professional

8 Supplies needed 3 inch binder, 8 dividers, zipper bag, pens, pencils, highlighters Spiral notebooks 1 ream of printer paper Map colors Flash drive Access to internet and computer resources

9 Child nutrition Breakfast Lunch After school snack Free for everyone
You may bring lunch for your daughter/ son but not their friends. If you do bring lunch, students will need to come to the office at their lunch time to pick up. We will not interrupt instructional time to deliver or notify them After school snack Provided on tutorial days for those that are in attendance

10 Transportation To and from ECAS To and from LSC
Pick up in neighborhoods or at zoned high school Transfer bus from zoned high school to ECAS M-Th ride RMS buses back to neighborhood F ride transfer buses to zoned high school and ride HS buses to neighborhood (if outside 2 miles) To and from LSC During the fall and spring we provide transportation to and from LSC during the school day

11 ECAS culture and transition from MS
ECAS is preparing students to be successful in college settings. This includes: Being an active participant in their learning Being a self-advocate Learning to manage their time, utilize good study skills and be responsible for their course work Respect and support each other and encourage each person to do their best Take care of the ECAS campus Following the SISD and LSC code of conduct- including dress code Being philanthropic

12 DSG – Dedicated Service Graduate
Each student is expected to participate in the DSG program through Spring ISD 30 hours per year, each year (ten of those hours should be to SISD)

What is college readiness? THINK! (Key cognitive strategies) KNOW! (Key content knowledge) ACT! (Key learning skills) GO! (Key transition knowledge and skills)

How does AVID make a student more prepared for college? THINK! (Key cognitive strategies)- Costas levels of questioning, Socratic Seminar, Philosophical Chairs KNOW! (Key content knowledge)- WICOR ACT! (Key learning skills)- note taking, summarizing, prioritizing, keeping a calendar, critical reading strategies GO! (Key transition knowledge and skills)- personality inventory, career interest inventory, college tours, college crate (applications and etc.)

Initial TSI testing in October, targeted retesting in November. Spring testing in March-April, targeted retesting in May Testing tickets allow students to test at LSC at other times! Mandatory parent and student meetings prior to enrollment in college course
