Cache battery pack

Purpose: hold up write cache data during a power outage
Lithium-ion batteries (previous generation uses lead acid)
One pack required per controller, containing
Three batteries (4.2V)
Total of six cells (two cells form a battery)
Provide power to the cache memory DIMMs
When both assemblies are fully charged
Guarantees power to the DIMMs for 96 hours (HUT)
Can really do 260+ hours
Batteries are firmware upgradeable
Most firmware is located in the pack

11. Fan description and functionality

Two controllers and two fans in the same enclosure
Each controller controls one fan
If one controller is missing, the other controller controls both fans
Each controller measures its temperature, and also measures the temperature of the other controller
Fans have trap doors to stop air flow for temperature control
Fans run at three speeds, similar to the HSV200-B
The speeds are based on temperature ranges

Controller enclosure power switch is located on a small module on the back of the enclosure
HSV4x0 also uses this design, but has different functionality
The power switch is a standby/on switch
Momentary on, hall-effect-type switch, which controls the On and Standby states
If current power state is Standby, switch must be pushed for a minimum of 1 second, then released for the power state to change from Standby to On
If current power state is On, the switch must be pushed for a minimum of 4 seconds, then released for the power state to change from On to Standby

WOCP is primary interface to MM to determine if system is generally accessible. The WOCP replaces the physical OCP from the other models, with similar functionality.
Only way that the software can be updated (other than manufacturing)
System has mechanism to restart processes if they crash for any reason

23. Storage system startup procedure

Verify that fabric switches connected to controllers are powered up and fully booted.
Power indicator on each switch should be on.
If powering on SAN switches, let them complete boot.
Power-up the circuit breaker on each rack PDU to power up the drive shelves.
Verify that all drive enclosures are operating.
Status and power indicators should be on (solid green LED).
Power-on controller enclosure to power-on both controllers.
After system starts, connect to WOCP to verify display of storage system name and WWN.
Start Command View EVA and verify connection to the storage system and its status.
Instructor notes
Unlike other generations of the EVA, when you power-up the controller enclosure, it is likely that both controllers will finish booting at the same time, in which case the left controller will become the master. If the array is initialized, the left controller would become Controller 1.

24. Configuring the embedded switch

Embedded switches in HSV300-S controller have default IP addresses.
May not be visible to network.
Configuration changes must be made to both switches.
Connect a cable from the Ethernet port of each switch to a laptop or PC and supply valid addresses.
Use a Cat 5e or greater cable.
Alternatively, connect using the console port and cable.
Use same IP range as embedded switch.
