Read the primary document together in pairs. Note that I have defined a few vocabulary words for you in the margin. As you are reading please complete the following in your spiral:
Create a graphic organizer (not an outline) of the reasons why the U.S. entered World War I.
Make a bullet-point list of what the U.S had to do to get ready for the Great War.
With the remaining part of the document please identify the objectives and attitudes that Wilson expresses about the goals the U.S. has for fighting this war. What does he hope to accomplish as far as international goals of peace? What does he fear would happen if the U.S. did not help in the war?
Describe Wilson’s attitude toward the government and people of Germany. Considering their role in WWI, do you find his attitude surprising? Discuss how the immigration wave from 1870’s-1910’s could have influenced what Wilson was willing to say about Germany.
