REGISTRATION Registration is completed via the TEACH system
Any holder of a teaching certificate, leadership certificate, teaching assistant level III certificate issued before July 1, 2016 must register and renew his/her registration every 5-years Any holder of a teaching certificate, leadership certificate, teaching assistant level III certificate issued after July 1, 2016 shall be automatically registered and must register every 5-years NYSED encourages registration on the month of your birthday during

CTLE REQUIREMENTS Individuals who hold a professional certificate must complete 100 hours of CTLE during each 5-year registration period 100 hours is accumulated beginning July 1, 2016 (previous hours obtained before 7/1/16 can not be carried-over)

15% of CTLE clock hours must be dedicated to language acquisition addressing needs of ELLs English to Speakers of Other Languages and Bilingual Extension Professional Certificate holders required to have 50% language acquisition CTLE If less than 5% (or 30) ELL students are enrolled in the district, teachers and leaders will not have to meet the CTLE language acquisition requirement

ACCEPTABLE CTLE "Shall mean activities designed to improve the teacher or leader’s pedagogical and/or leadership skills, targeted at improving student performance, including but not limited to formal CTLE activities”

Approved CTLE Providers NYS School Districts/BOCES NYS Institutes of Higher Education (IHEs) Teacher Centers Professional Organizations and Unions Vetted Consultants Any Other Entity Approved by NYSED National Board for Professional Teaching Certification Principal Acting as an Independent Evaluator Peer Review Teacher Credit-Bearing University or College Courses 1 semester hour = 15 CTLE Clock Hours

RECORDING CTLE HOURS The certificate holder is responsible to retain a record of CTLE programs attended and the number of hours completed. Certificate holders must keep records three years beyond the end of the five-year registration period Approved providers of CTLE professional development Must keep a record of those who attended the CTLE activities Provide a certificate of completion to attendees Maintain records for up to eight years

District Steps Once Professional Development Plan Is Approved
Determine which employees have the 100 hour CTLE requirement Ensure that these employees are aware that they are responsible for keeping track of their CTLE Professional Development hours over the 5-year period (employees must keep their records of attendance 3 years beyond the 5-year period) At the conclusion of the 5-year period those required to obtain the CTLE 100 hours will attest on their TEACH account that they have completed the 100 hour requirement The District’s Professional Development Plan will define what will be accepted for CTLE hours (i.e. working faculty meetings, workshops/trainings, Superintendent Conference Days, BOCES workshops, outside consultants, etc…) For PD provided “in-house” by the district, a certificate of attendance must be provided to each employee by the district

The certificate of attendance must include the employee’s name, date of birth, last four digits of their SS #, title of the CTLE workshop/training, number of hours, district official signature Employees that attend workshops/trainings at BOCES will receive a certificate upon completion of the workshop (Certificates can be printed by attendees via My Learning Plan) Districts and BOCES must keep a record of the CTLE trainings/workshops that have been offered for a period of eight years and record of attendance (however, there is no requirement for Districts/BOCES to submit the number of hours each individual employee has accumulated)
