The Antarctic food web is relatively simple compared to other ecosystems – there are fewer species, but greater numbers of them.

4. Krill…
Krill means “whale food” in Norwegian. Krill are ‘shrimp-like’ fish and are a key part of the Antarctic food web, with many animals feeding on them.
They are extremely abundant, although recently their numbers have been dropping.

30 years ago, Antarctica’s waters were filled with krill - the main food for just about every resident. Today, much of the krill have gone missing.
What has happened to them? And who is responsible for their disappearance?
