Singular Noun/Pronoun
A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun. Like nouns, pronouns can be singular or plural. Singular Noun/Pronoun 1. Dennis he 2. book it 3. A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun
A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun. An antecedent is the noun for which a pronoun stands. Pronouns must agree with the noun they replace in number. If the pronoun takes the place of a singular noun, a singular pronoun must be used. If the pronoun takes the place of a plural noun, a plural pronoun must be used. Example: Sarah drove her car to the beach. (singular) The players celebrated their victory. (plural)

Guided Practice: Write the sentences below.
For each sentence, place a check over the article. Underline each noun. Write a P over the pronoun and draw an arrow from the pronoun to the antecedent or noun for which the pronoun stands. The teacher decorated her classroom. The principal of the school paid to have it freshly painted. Kentucky is proud of its schools. Have students write all three sentences and then complete one at a time. After each, write answers on board and discuss. Pronouns and nouns must agree with each other throughout a writing piece. If you are writing in the "first person" (I), don't confuse your reader by switching to the "second person" (you) or "third person" (he, she, they, it, etc.). Examples: When Sally comes to class, she should have her textbook. (NOT: When Sally comes to class, you should have your textbook.)

Guided Practice: Rewrite the following sentence so that the pronouns and nouns agree.
When the teacher reads the book, they should speak loudly. Review for quiz: Write the sentence and mark each article, noun, pronoun, antecedent. The students were prepared for the test and scored well on it. Correct answer: When the teacher reads the book, SHE (or he) should speak loudly.
