Satellite Clubs D7730 – Lin Kelly DACdb User Group Meeting - Oct 2015

Satellite Clubs Satellite Clubs is a new category for RI.
What is a Satellite Club? Satellite clubs provide a new option for creating Rotary clubs. A satellite club functions as a short-term, transitional step on the way to becoming a full, independent Rotary club. How do you sponsor a Satellite Club? The parent club must send an application to RI to sponsor a satellite club. The satellite club must have a minimum of 8 members and each member must fill out an application to be sent in with the club application. Will the Satellite Club be it’s own club? The Satellite Club will continue to be part of the parent club
3
Satellite Clubs Will the Satellite Club have its own club number?
No – The Satellite Club will operate under the club number of the sponsoring club. For now, you will have to send in an application to RI for each new member. What does a Satellite Club look like? Has it’s own board but instead of President it has a Chair Has it’s own meeting location Has it’s own by-laws The Chair can be a board member of the main club and is encouraged to do so They cannot sponsor any clubs (i.e. another Satellite club, Rotaract or Interact Club)

Satellite Clubs My Satellite Club is appoved – now what.
Add the Satellite Club to DaCdb Click on “Clubs” tab Click on “Add Club”
5
Satellite Clubs Complete the new club form Select the Club Parent
Select “Satellite Club” for type of club, then save

Satellite Clubs Add Members, Transfer Members
Use the Add new member feature but keep in mind that RI is going to give you the member number, as you sent the application to them. They will send you an to verify the member’s ID To transfer a member from the Parent Club to the Satellite Club. You must also send an application for a satellite member to RI, put the current member’s number on it and indicate that you are transferring that member to the Satellite Club Click on the Club Tab
7
Satellite Clubs Change the name of the club to the Satellite Club and then select update. The Satellite Club with its members will show up as a separate tab in red. Districts asked DaCdb to have some way to track Satellite Members so a separate tab was created to track them. This is subject to change based on future feedback that is received

Satellite Clubs You can find the applications in PDF format for both the Satellite Club and New Members of Satellite Clubs at: Application for Satellite Club: Application for a new member of a Satellite Club: Remember – you must use the new member application form for a Satellite Club for an existing member who wants to transfer to the Satellite Club Keep in mind that you can also use this to add Rotaract Clubs or Interact Clubs.

Satellite Clubs Issues
Because the Satellite Club is part of the Parent Club but has a special member number for each member, it is not able to select RI Direct. Therefore, the RI compare will not work for these members – there is little we can do about this because RI is probably not sure if Satellite Clubs will work So when running RI compare, Satellite Club Members will appear in Red and will eventually fall off the RI side of the page because they cannot select RI Direct
10
Satellite Clubs RI feels a Satellite Club should be temporary until they get enough members to spin off to an actual rotary club If you are close to 20 people, and at least 10 of them work and live in the community where you want to start the club, you are better off sponsoring a new club.
