2 Workforce Investment Act (WIA)
Increase the employment, occupational attainment and retention, and earnings of participants; Improve the quality of the workforce; reduce welfare dependency; and Enhance the productivity and competitiveness of the nation’s economy.

3 South Bay One-Stop Business & Career Centers
Adults and Dislocated Workers Core Services –Emphasis on self-directed job search with the following services- Job Search Workshops, Placement Assistance, Labor Market Information, Resume Writing and access to computers, fax machines, the internet, and other resource materials. Intensive Services-Emphasis on enhancing job search skills which may include and not limited to, a comprehensive assessment, identification of employment barriers, development of employment goals, case management, and plan and career counseling. Training Services – On the Job Training Classroom Training occupational skills training, including training for nontraditional employment on-the-job training programs that combine workplace training with related instruction, which may include cooperative education programs training programs operated by the private sector skill upgrading and retraining entrepreneurial training adult education and literacy activities provided in combination with any of the before stated training services customized training conducted with a commitment by an employer or group of employers to employ an individual upon successful completion of the training

11 Middle Skills Occupations
What is a middle-skill job? Some 43 percent of all job openings in California between now and 2016 will be in middle-skill jobs. One that requires more than a high school diploma but less than a four-year college degree. Who provides middle-skill training? Community colleges, apprenticeship programs, nonprofit community-based training organizations, and private career schools. How can we meet the demand for middle-skill and high-skill jobs? Every working Californian should have access to the equivalent of up to two years of education or training past high school and the basic skills needed to enter that training.
