Under Oracle licensing rules, any machine that is capable of running Oracle must be licensed for Oracle
Only Active/Active/Active and Active/Active/Passive methods give adequate continuity with a standard rack server installation
Active/Active/Cold is not realistic due to manual failover and time taken to bring the system back online
Additional CAPEX Costs, lack of scalability and North/South East/West contention

System configuration: 4x Blade servers are Oracle-Active - Licensed
2x Blade Servers are Reserved, Cold - Unlicensed
10x Blade servers are running other workloads
The Virtual Connect presents service profiles to the Network, and dynamically maps these to each blade server.
WWN and MAC addresses never change even
if the physical servers do.

Failover Scenario: 1) Virtual Connect senses server down
2) Virtual Connect boots cold spare
3) Cold Spare boots to Virtual Connect and is assigned the boot LUN for Oracle on the attached 3PAR
4) Cold Spare comes online as Oracle server
5) Recovery Complete, time taken ~ 90-seconds

Failover with Workload Prioritisation: With Workload Prioritisation, you assign priorities to each service run by Virtual Connect. In the event of a failure where no cold spare servers are available another server running a less important function will switch roles in the event of a failure.
