Sweat Glands for Girls and Boys
Two Types: Approcrine- located under the arms and in the genital area of the body. Eccrine- located everywhere Purpose of Sweating- to cool down the inner temperature of the body.

Hygiene Clean ears- the parts that a person can see daily. Do not clean the inside of the ear canal. Oils and earwax will build and need to be removed. Brush teeth- 2 times per day for at least 2 minutes. Brush tongue. Also floss (daily). Plaque can build which can cause cavities and needs to be removed. Clothing- clothes that are near the body such as undergarments, t-shirts should be washed after one use. Other clothes such as jeans, sweatshirts, sweaters can be washed less often unless they are soiled. Sweat and oils can cause an odor if not washed often enough. Face- wash skin twice per day due to oil and sweat build up. Use cleaners that are mild/ not drying. Shower/bathe- every day. Sometimes more frequently if involved in activities where you are sweating. Hair- wash every to every other day. Make sure to wash the scalp because this is where oils are produced. Rinse your hair thoroughly.

Menstruation (Period)
Growth & Development Menstruation (Period) Ovulation: Each month a mature egg cell ripens. At the same time, the endometrium builds up with blood and some tissue. The egg cell takes a 4 to 6 day trip down the fallopian tubes into the uterus. Occasionally, two or more eggs are released at the same time. Menstruation: Menstruation or having your period is when the endometrium begins to slough off the walls of the uterus and slowly passes out of the body through the vagina. Periods usually begin between the ages of 10 and 15, but it is normal to begin earlier or later. Menstruation usually occurs every 28 days. Menstruation is a period of time in a woman’s life when she is able to have children.

Growth & Development Menstruation is a period of time in a woman’s life when she is able to have children. The first periods in a young girl’s life are often irregular. It is not uncommon to skip a month or to have periods close together. The length of periods varies from 2 days to 7 days. The amount of blood that is released over the number of days is equivalent to a half a cup. Gradually, with time, a regular cycle will establish, but it is still quite normal and common during the teen years to have irregular periods.
