3 Before you graduate Program of Study Committee (POSC): approved the term PRIOR to graduation, or pre-lim. Incompletes removed from your record Expired classes (over 7 years – master’s; 10 years Ph.D.) approved Pre-lim taken 6 months prior to final exam. POSC classes are accurate

4 Graduate Student Status Page – all requirements met

5 Items in orange need attention. Modifications can be submitted
by using the “My POSC” button.

6 When POSC forms are approved, you can view your Program Audit, which indicates items are complete.

7 Timeline Final Oral Exam –
Absolute deadlines Application for Graduation – Sept 8 – Fall; Jan 26- Spring; June 1 – Summer Request for Final Oral Exam– Online For students with a required final oral exam Due 3 weeks prior to exam date or by Nov 1– Fall; Mar 23 - Spring; June 22 – Summer Final Oral Exam – Nov. 22 – Fall; April 17 – Spring; July 17- Summer Create ProQuest account for submitting thesis. Be sure to enter thesis/dissertation title. This will be used for the Commencement Brochure.

Available on AccessPlus college.iastate.edu/common/forms/grad_app.php Deadline – 3rd week of term Puts your name on the graduation list Can be cancelled later.. $20 nonrefundable late fee – 4th & 5th week $145 thesis/dissertation fee assessed at time of application. One-time only fee.

Thesis Seminar Powerpoint Thesis Boot Camps Thesis boot camps will provide individual help to students formatting their thesis or dissertation. Students can use a computer in the lab setting or bring their own laptop and thesis file to work specifically on their manuscript and get individual help from thesis consultants.

29 ISU Policy on Embargos/Holds on your Thesis
Title and abstract released, text withheld Submit through ProQuest/UMI Publishing options: choose 6 months or other Hold is controlled through ProQuest/UMI Title, abstract, and text withheld Complete the Thesis Hold form from the Graduate College Submit thesis through ProQuest Thesis will not be fully delivered to ProQuest until you release the hold Student/major professor responsible for controlling hold end dates.

37 Submit your thesis Create your account with ProQuest/UMI
Create your account with ProQuest at the time of your final defense, putting in your basic information and the name of your thesis/dissertation. Submit your paper after you have passed your final exam. You can make changes or revisions to your information up to the time your paper is accepted Once your thesis/dissertation is accepted, it is a “done deal.” No fee for electronic submission – traditional publishing option Copyright fee = $55

Copyright privileges vest immediately upon creating your work. You own your own copyright when you send your paper to ProQuest/UMI. Registering copyright recommended filing a patent writing a book publishing articles major professor recommends it
