Volunteers (CERV) program prepares everyday people to help themselves, their family, their neighbours and their communities in the event of an emergency or disaster. - 5th year (2011) - Modelled on FEMA - EMO funded once - Only Health Unit - Work with County Team

7 Why should I join CERV-MLHU?
Educate yourself, your family, friends & neighbours about the all important tasks of preparing for emergencies. Help others in times of disaster. Strengthen the bond in your community. -Create Partnerships!

8 CERV is a community preparedness course that includes both academic and hands-on instruction.

9 CERV training includes:
Basic search and rescue Community emergency management Emergency and disaster response skills Emergency exercise training Emergency first aid and CPR certification Fire safety and prevention Pandemic planning and infection control Personal and family emergency preparedness Public awareness and education Reception centre assistance Registration and inquiry Volunteer health and safety - Fit-test N95 -Other opportunities – CANWARN, Salvation Army

10 CERV classes run every Thursday from
1:00 pm-3:00 pm. from September until December, and monthly from January to June. No fees. Registrants are required to possess a valid drivers license, have access to the internet and have the ability to pass a criminal reference check with vulnerable sector screening. - Added a Tuesday class due to response 2011.

11 CERV supports the community year-round by participating in hands-on exercises, drills, and disaster preparedness outreach activities.

The benefits of the CERV program are numerous. It will increase our overall level of disaster readiness, provide emergency skills that people may use in day-to-day emergencies, enhance the bond between government and community, increase community spirit and improve the quality of life for the people of our city.
