In Spanish, all adjectives agree in gender and number with the noun or nouns they are describing. Do you remember which of the animals are masculine (un) and which are feminine (una)? masculine feminine gato pájaro perro pez tortuga caballo hámster loro Teacher’s note: Masculine nouns gato perro hámster conejo puerco espín conejillo de Indias ratón pájaro pez caballo loro Feminine nouns tortuga serpiente conejo serpiente puerco espín conejillo de Indias ratón

Adjectives are describing words. In English they never change, but in Spanish they change depending on the gender of the noun they are describing. Adjectives describing feminine nouns often end in –a.

In Spanish we put the adjective after the noun, whereas in English it goes before the noun a green tortoise una tortuga verde adj. noun noun adj.
