God’s Plan of Salvation
Phil 2:12
2
God’s Plan of Salvation
A call to work out or to confirm your salvation. 2 Pet 1:10 Call and Election Sure Salvation ought to be treated urgently Heaven must be our priority. While there are many “plans of salvation” only one will get us into Heaven.
3
God’s Plan of Salvation
Eph 2:8 – Two parts to our salvation! Grace- God’s Part. Faith- Our part God’s grace ultimately saves us He has set a few conditions we must meet.
4
God Sent His Son John 3:16 God’s love demonstrated in sending his Son.
1 John 4:10 God loved us and sent his son to be the propitiation for our sins. Jesus also had this purpose Luke 19:10 “Seek and Save the Lost” Luke 5:31 “Call sinners to repentance”
5
Jesus Shed His Blood 1 Pet 1:18,19 Redeemed by the precious blood of Christ. The Old Law was not sufficient for taking away our sins. Heb 9:12-14 Jesus provided that better sacrifice. 1 Pet 2:22-24 We are healed by the blood of Christ.
6
Holy Spirit Revealed the Word
John 16:13 Spirit guided them into all truth. 1 Cor. 2:9-13 We have received the Holy Spirit. John 14:17 Holy Spirit dwells in us today Holy Spirit guides us through God’s revealed word.
7
Are We Saved Yet? NO! God has done all of this for us, we must still accept his gift. We must be obedient so we can receive the gift from God. We MUST do OUR part! Phil 2:12
8
Man’s Part- Hear Rom 10:17 We must hear the Word of God
John 6:44,45 Everyone who has heard the Father comes to Christ. What does it mean to Hear? Literally means to listen or to come to the knowledge of.
9
Man’s Part- Hear We must become acquainted with God’s word.
John 6:45 When we have HEARD and LEARNED, we can come to Christ Once we hear God’s Word what is next?
10
Man’s Part- Believe Heb 11:6 Impossible to please God without faith.
John 8:24 We will die in our sins if we do not believe. What does it mean to believe? Acts 8:37a “Believe with all your heart” Acts 8:37b “I believe that Jesus is the Son of God” We must firmly believe that Jesus is who he claimed he was.
11
Man’s Part- Believe According to many, the steps end here.
“All you have to do is believe” James 2:17-26 Our faith is justified, made perfect or complete, by our works. Our faith calls us to do more!
12
Man’s Part- Repent Rom 3:23 We must realize that we are a sinner.
1 John 1:8 We cannot deceive ourselves into thinking we have no sin. Acts 17:30 Once we realize we have sinned, we must repent. Repentance means to change one’s mind. Literally we are to turn away from sin or darkness and begin walking towards the light.
13
Man’s Part- Repent Eph 4:20-23 Put off former conduct.
Our sinful action or way of life MUST go. Col 3:9 Put off the old man, and Put on the new man. We must repent of our sinful conduct and turn to God and embrace godly standards of living. What is the next step?
14
Man’s Part- Confess We must confess our belief
Rom 10:9,10 Confess that Jesus is Lord and God raised him from the dead. Acts 8:37 The eunuch gives the good confession. “I believe that Jesus is the Son of God.” Matt 10:32,33 If we confess him before others, he will confess us before his father. Are we ashamed to confess Christ?
15
Man’s Part- Baptism This is the most controversial step to salvation.
Most of the religious world says baptism is not necessary for salvation. What does the scriptures say about this?
16
Man’s Part- Baptism Mark 16:16 “He who believe AND is baptized will be saved” Acts 2:38 “Let every one be baptized for the remission of sins” Acts 22:16 “Be baptized and wash away your sins” 1 Pet 3:21 “There is an antitype which now saves us, BAPTISM.” You CANNOT separate baptism from salvation.
17
Man’s Part- Baptism What is baptism?
An immersion in water. John 3:23. Acts 8:39 Likeness of a birth- John 3:5 Likeness of a Burial- Rom 6:3-4 Likeness of a resurrection- Col 2:12
18
Man’s Part- Baptism What does baptism do? Acts 2:38 Remission of Sins
Acts 22:16 Wash away our sins Rom 6:3,4 We are put into the likeness of Christ’s death. Raised to walk in newness of life. What makes us new? The Blood of Christ Eph. 1:7, Heb 9:14 1 Pet 3:21 Baptism saves us through the resurrection of Christ
19
Man’s Part- Baptism Why oppose baptism?
Many find excuses to dismiss the necessity of baptism claiming The thief on the cross was not baptized. Cornelius was saved prior to baptism. Jesus never baptized anyone. Therefore baptism is not necessary. These are all perversion of the scriptures!
20
Man’s Part- Baptism Baptized Believe Mark 16:16
Saved Mark 16:16 Mark 16:16 God gave his condition for those who will be saved. ANYTHING contrary to these condition is LOST! Vs. 16b does not say He who does not believe or is not baptized will be condemned. It does not have to!
21
Man’s Part- Live Faithful
Once we obtain the gift of salvation, we must maintain it. We can lose it. Gal 5:4 You have fallen from grace Ch 1:2 Written to “Churches of Galatia” Vs 6. “I marvel you are turning away so soon” Obviously they were saved at one point. If they can fall from God’s grace, we can too!
22
Man’s Part- Live Faithful
We must live our lives for God not for ourselves. 1 Cor. 6:20 You were bought at a price. Jesus paid the debt for our sins. He has done so much for us and asks for so little in return. “He doesn’t ask for much, he just asks for everything.” Matt 11:30
23
Man’s Part- Live Faithful
Gal 2:20 Our life is looking for God’s wants and desires for us. Rom 6:1,2 Jesus now dwells in us through obedience. John 15:10 Rom 12:1,2 Present our bodies a living sacrifice. Rev 2:10 Remain faithful and we will receive a eternal reward.
