EQ: How was the United States driven to be an imperialistic nation? I will analyze the major factors that drove the United States to imperialism and choose which factor had the biggest influence on the policy.

Beginning in 1867 and continuing through the century, global competition caused the US to expand.
During this time the US acquired Hawaii and Alaska (they both became states in 1959).
