8. Community Outreach
Recently the County held community outreach meetings with local mental health organizations- County of Sonoma Mental Health Board, CHIPA, Interlink and NAMI- to outline the proposed facility and to discuss the challenges, pressures and solutions facing both inmates and correctional staff within the MADF.
The positive feedback from these meetings has further informed the design and program development of the new detention facility as well as promoting the continuing dialog between the Sheriff’s Office and the community.

9. DRC Report & DRC Public Records Request
The recent Disability Rights California (DRC) report raised issues and concerns associated with the care of County inmates. The County has significant pressure upon it to address these concerns in a timely, cost-efficient and humane manner.
Additionally, the County has received Public Records Request from DRC related to the documents for the new Behavioral Health Housing Unit. This serves to highlight the scrutiny this detention facility faces- even from the onset of design.

The bridging architectural team, in conjunction with the Sheriff’s Office, CAO, Department of Health Services and General Services, has made significant progress toward designing an efficient and innovative facility with a progressive program of care.
This goes far in addressing many of the issues currently facing the County and MADF with respect to care of incarcerated inmates requiring mental health care.
