Classic formal Learning
Competency Learning- curve 1 We look at competency over time. Competency describes the capability to accomplish tasks at the workplace. 1 2 This is a typical learning curve as it is common in e.g. trainings or other formal interventions. The competency increases due to the training but immediately starts decreasing significantly afterwards. 2 3 After the end of the training you immediately forget. According to Ebbinghaus competency decreases massively if the accumulated knowledge is not applied. That is typically not the case after formal trainings. 3 Wie erreichen wir Workplace Performance? Competency As shown, competency has decreased significantly after Go-Live and is at a fairly low level. Competency With Performance Support In order to come to a stronger increase of competency after Go-Live, the end user needs to get all the support which perfectly fits to the concrete tasks he or she has to accomplish: Performance Support! 1 1 Additionally: How can you achieve that competency starts at a higher level at Go-Live in the first place? 2 Wie erreichen wir Workplace Performance? Competency It helps, that when using Performance Support lot less concrete activities need to be introduced to end users (since they get all the help they need after Go-Live). “Only” the aspect of change is being addressed and end users are prepared both conceptually and motivationally to the changes at their workplace. Therefore, the learning curve is flatter. 1 1 Less training means that e.g. due to organizational reasons the interventions can be a lot closer to Go-Live. Only with a holistic approach and a meaningful combination of formal leaning and Performance Support initiatives you can reach a significant increase of workplace performance. The concrete content, help measures, etc. can be quite diverse. It is of utmost importance though that these have to perfectly match the specific tasks and needs of the employee at the workplace.
