In the Index, you can search to find “Alabama.” From there you will find the AS Alignments, PS Alignments, and Suggested Learning Objectives.

10 Choose from among these skills to develop a learning path for your students. Note: You may also run this report individually for students. Given a student's Scaled Score, teachers can identify the collection of skills that fall within the corresponding Scaled Score range.

11 Classroom Profile Student’s Scaled Score National Percentile Ranking
Test Completion Date ** ANIMATED SLIDE Your class report will render You will see your student names, Scaled Score, National Percentile ranking, and the date of completion for the test You will want to check the testing date to make sure everyone has completed the test during the testing period

12 ** ANIMATED SLIDE On the right side of the screen you will then see the objectives your students saw questions around as well as the number of students who attained and did not attain You will see three levels of success represented here The report displays in level of difficulty The top portion of your report shows you the students who are on the lower ability levels within your class The middle section represents the average of your class The bottom portion shows you the students who are your higher learners You will notice the coding behind the objective statement – this is the correlation to the Alabama Course of Study, the College and Career Readiness skills as well as the ACT Quality Core The area highlighted in the red box shows you how many students have attained a skill and how many have not To determine who those students are you simply click on the gray head and shoulders icon located next to the numbers

13 Focusing in on Skills ** ANIMATED SLIDE
By clicking on the gray head and shoulders icon - this opened in a new screen You will see your list rendered that shows you the students on the left who mastered the skills and the students on the right who have yet to master the skill A couple of more things to look into - One is the library books – these are, again, your resources. By clicking on them you will open Study Guides that will provide you greater insight into the objective and what is needed for mastery The other is the Targeted Skill – by clicking on the scope icon, you will go into the Skills Connection Online resource that will generate a 4-question quiz as well as the Study Guide and answer key Keep in mind – the study guide is not meant to be for students – but as a guide for the instructional leader

14 N/A indicates a student who did not take or complete his or her PS test.

15 The Scaled Score is the student’s overall score independent of grade level.

16 A student who has a score, but no Performance Rating, likely tested outside of the prescribed PS testing periods.

17 The Performance Bands/Ratings are national, color-coded data points revealing how each student compares to his or her peers who tested in the norm study. Performance Ratings- Below Average (0 – 24th percentile) Low Average (25th – 49th percentile) High Average (50th – 74th percentile) Above Average (75th – 100th percentile)

18 These are unit-specific skills and the number of students expected to have attained (A) or not attained (NA) the skills. Performance Ratings- Below Average (0 – 24th percentile) Low Average (25th – 49th percentile) High Average (50th – 74th percentile) Above Average (75th – 100th percentile)

19 Click on a student’s name to access his or her individual student profile.

20 Student Profile Report
** ANIMATED SLIDE Here is a sample of what the Scaled Score will look like on the student profile. The SS is in bold, and circled in red. The four digit number can be interpreted using the Placement Indicators. (Placement Indicators document can be located in the ALSDE Dropbox. Use Placement Indicators to interpret the four-digit number, based on the student’s grade-level and time of year. This would also be a good time to hand out the Placement Indicators to the participants. At this point, have the participants locate the SS on the Placement Indicators document. (Reading, Grade 4, Spring testing) On the left-hand side of your screen you can see a longitudinal graph that tracks a student’s progress over time. The green solid line denotes student progress The blue dotted line shows STATE data – it is important to note that the screen states district data, but in the state of Alabama this program is implemented from the state level, therefore the data is state data The gray dotted broken line is a new feature and shows National Average Scaled Score (consistent with the Placement Indicators) At the bottom of the screen you will see the word ALL and then SCHOOL YEAR This feature allows you to see All data for a student in one graph or you have the option to view one year at a time. Let’s take a look on our next slide 20

26 Standard Item Pool (SIP)
Student Grade Level Content The SIP, or Standard Item Pool, is a score that is given that means that if a student was presented with all of the grade level appropriate items in Performance Series that we have, what percentage of them would they answer correctly? To have a guide for where your student should be, consider where you are in the instruction of the grade level content for the course of the year. The beginning of the year, you will see that your scores may be lower than expected. That is acceptable, because your students have yet to have grade-level instruction The winter testing window should show scores of 50% and up since you are at least 50% of the way through the curriculum The spring testing window would have you approaching the 90% mark or higher since you are almost complete with instruction of grade-level curriculum.

27 Unit Score Range (USR) Student Grade Level Content

28 Unit Score Range (USR) Student Grade Level Content
The USR represents the possible range that a student may score, within each unit, if he or she was to take the test over again.

29 Lexile

30 Lexile Measures Provided by Metametrics ©
partnership with Metametrics©. Links are provided directly to their website with resources available for training and educational practices. The Lexile Measure Research does not take into account the age/grade of the student click on the first QUESTION MARK located below the student scores

31

32 Lexile – Grade Level Often we are asked how does the Lexile Measure relate to grade level and how can I use this in my classroom You can click on the second QUESTION MARK and, again, it will take to Metametrics’ website

41 Suggested Learning Objectives
Suggested Learning Objectives offer a detailed list of a single student’s ability level divided into units The list is based on his/her performance on the most recent subject-based assessment The report provides a list of objectives the student has successfully attained and objectives that could be considered instructional next steps

42 SLOs - Making the Selection
In the first drop-down box, select the number of Learning Objectives Attained – no magic number, just pick what it is you need to see In the second drop-down box, select a realistic number of SLOs to begin working on with the student You will need to click the first box to exclude standards that are not aligned with the ALSDE Courses of Study For the second box, you will need to consider the student’s progress. A guideline to follow is if the student is in the top 50% of the national norms, then do not mark the second box. If they fall in the lower 50%, then mark the box.

43 Learning Plan for the Student
The Objectives on the left side of the screen show you the Successfully Attained skills The Objectives on the right side of the screen show you the Suggested Learning Objectives You will see they are broken down by the various units within that subject content area If additional support and guidance is needed for instructional purposes, you can click on the RESOURCES link (the library books) and it will provide you with Study Guides to assist with directive instruction

44 Use for SLOs Provide educators with instructional next steps when they are unsure of where to begin with instruction for a student Aid in the creation of long-term goals on an IEP for Special Education students Act as an investment tool for students by looking at the Learning Objectives Attained as great accomplishments and the SLO as weekly goals. Provide work targets for enrichment plans Guide conversations in parent-educator conferences about next steps Take a moment to look at the various ways in which the SLOs can be used for improving student growth
