3 DEFINITION OF GEOGRAPHY
ge·og·ra·phy 1 : a science that deals with the description, distribution, and interaction of the diverse physical, biological, and cultural features of the earth's surface Source-Merriam Webster Collegiate Dictionary

30 EARTH – Keeping Our Maps Accurate

31 Why does a globe show the Earth more accurately than a map?
A globe is the same shape as Earth, so it represents it accurately.

32 GLOBES A sphere with a map printed on it. Same shape as the Earth
Sizes and shapes are accurate. Not so easy to take with you. Flat maps are more useful, but map projections of the world always distort. - Maps can be much more detailed and specific.

33 The Mapmakers: Cartographers
Vermeer, The Cartographer Cartographers make map projections. (They’re easier to take with you than a globe.)

34 Genoese Nautical Chart of the World, A.D. 1457

35 World Map of Rosselli First to show the entire globe
